President's Letter May 2011
We all know that we prefer doing business with people we know, like, and trust. If you are new to Portlandia you may be wondering how you get to know other members and find your way to a level of trust and the opportunity to work with each other.
I think participating as a volunteer on committees is the best way to get to know other members. Yes, going to the beach together definitely helps you know each other away from work, but I think volunteering together gives you a better sense of how you feel about someones work. Portlandia lives through our volunteers. And yes, this is a pitch to get you involved in the club, in the many opportunities to volunteer that exist.
Right now we have a need for a coordinator for the greeters and for additional greeters. This is a truly great way to get to know other members while helping Portlandia stand out as the premiere club in how we meet and greet our guests.
The other big volunteer opportunity right now is to assist with luncheon and after hours registrations. Of course you need to be congenial and able to pay attention to detail; I can't think of a better way to meet the membership than being in front of them as either a greeter or helping them get registered for an event.
If you are able to join us in volunteering for one of these positions, please contact Christine Green at 503-281-6301 or email her at revgreen@sacredheartministries.org.
Thank you in advance for getting involved.
Marilyn Mays President 2011
