 Presidents Letter

I am so grateful to have served this year as president of Portlandia. The year has just flown by and we have accomplished so much!  We've welcomed over 100 guests this year to our monthly luncheons and over 40 guests to our After Hours program. We had informative networking at our After Hours and lots of fun at our member social events. We worked together to raise money for our scholarship fund and contributed $10,000 back to the community.

What I am most grateful for is the opportunity Portlandia provides its members to get to know each other. Portlandia is neither a building nor a place. It is a community of women connected by a common bond to support each other, personally and professionally. It is a community that strives to give back to the community through our mentor program, our fundraising and our generous hearts.

Thank you for your support this year, your participation, your words of encouragement and your partnership. I have grown richer from knowing each of you. I look forward as we continue our work to grow together and provide opportunities for all women to be empowered.

I extend my heartfelt blessings to you and your family for a joy-filled holiday season.

Warm regards,
Christine Green

Chief Reveal Roses and Ruts on the Road to
                         Top Cop Position

Portland Police Chief Rosie Sizer will give us a peek into the life and career of the second woman in the city's history to oversee the Police Bureau, when she addresses our monthly luncheon on January 7.

Sizer was sworn in as chief in July of 2006. She  had worked in the bureau in various assignments since 1985, including several precincts, the Drugs and Vice Division, TriMet Division and the Detective Division.
When she was tapped by Mayor Tom Potter to become chief, she was commander of the Southeast Precinct.

Chief Sizer has a long history of building relationships within the community, acting as the Bureau's unofficial liaison with people who have not traditionally had relationships with police, including social service organizations, political dissenters and community activists.

Invite a friend to join you for this exciting speaker!

Portlandia's New Location!

For many years we have enjoyed holding our luncheons at the MAC.  Food, location & service were always wonderful.  However, the one drawback to a private club is that we were not allowed to advertise the location of our meetings in print.

Effective January 7th, our new luncheon location will be The Portland City Grill.

Directions: 111 SW 5th ave & Pine st., Portland/ Unico US Bank Tower/ Jefferson Room

We will enjoy all the same ammenities; great food, location & 2 1/2 hr free covered parking, for the same price.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Annual Holiday Bottle Party Review!

December 7th was a night to remember as 38 Portlandia members, in holiday attire, filled the gorgeous L.O. home of member Virginia Rubin.

Each woman brought a wrapped bottle of something "special" to contribute to our party game. After a delicious buffet dinner, catered by Jill Norman, As You Like It Catering, we got down to business.

We were in hysterics as Edrie unwrapped about 50 ft of tinsel to reveal her cobalt blue bottle of wine!  The hoots & laughter escalated from there.

Christine reminded us that "What happens at the Bottle Party, stays at the Bottle Party", so that is all I can report. Suffice to say that a grand time was had by all and if you missed it there is always next year!

You Can Change a Woman's Life

What if just nine of us took nine minutes a week to change the lives of nine women?

Nine.  That's how many eager women from the Dress for Success Professional Women's Group raised their hands asking for a mentor at a recent mentee orientation session.

As those who participate in the Better Together mentor program have discovered, you can have a significant impact on a mentee's life by simply having a monthly phone conversation with her for, say, 36 minutes.  Can you spare the time?  Think of how easy it can be to build confidence, self-esteem and success in another woman.  Contact
