topPresident's Message

Wow! October already! Time is just speeding by. Our Portlandia annual meeting is coming up in November. It is an opportunity to review our year and achievements in Portlandia. We need your feedback!!  Please complete the email survey when you receive it. We want to hear your views, ideas and feedback for our organization.

We have such an awesome organization due to our fabulous volunteers that give of their time and talent. Every aspect of this organization is due to someone sharing their time and giving of themselves. Please think about volunteering for a committee next year. We will have a list with all the openings at the November meeting.

We were able to contribute $10,000 this year to the organizations that are near and dear to our hearts. Our money is raised from events like the Scoops for Scholarships in June and the Hike and Bike in August. Do you have an idea for a fundraiser? We would love to hear it.

Being a home-grown organization means we make a difference here in Portland. It also means that it is up to each of us to make it the dynamic and amazing community to connect, collaborate and contribute.  I look forward to seeing you at the meeting!!

Warm regards,

Christine Green
Portlandia President

Portlandia's New Location!

For many years we have enjoyed holding our luncheons at the MAC.  Food, location & service were always wonderful.  However, the one drawback to a private club is that we were not allowed to advertise the location of our meetings in print.

Starting with our December holiday luncheon, we will be meeting at the Portland City Grill.

We will enjoy all the same ammenities; great food, location & free covered parking, for the same price.
Look for more information next month!

Communicating more powerfully in difficult situations?

*Motivating others without using fear, guilt or shame?

Mentors and mentees have raved about two workshops called Building More Satisfying Relationships by Barbara MacKay, founder and owner of North Star Facilitators. Everyone who attended wanted MORE TIME.  Barbara is back to present a longer workshop to help us hone our skills.

This workshop is open to Portlandia mentors, mentees, and members (you don't have to be a current mentor to attend).

The workshop is Saturday, Oct. 24, 1:30 - 5 p.m. at Dress for Success Oregon, 1532 NE 37th, Portland, OR 97232.

The room seats only 40. So it's important that you reserve your place in the workshop by October 15 with Kathie@timeforsuccess.net or phone Kathie England at 503-531-9466.

You Can Change a Woman's Life

What if just nine of us took nine minutes a week to change the lives of nine women?

Nine.  That's how many eager women from the Dress for Success Professional Women's Group raised their hands asking for a mentor at a recent mentee orientation session.

As those who participate in the Better Together mentor program have discovered, you can have a significant impact on a mentee's life by simply having a monthly phone conversation with her for, say, 36 minutes.  Can you spare the time?  Think of how easy it can be to build confidence, self-esteem and success in another woman.  Contact Kathie England

Portlandia Gift Card Project

As our ongoing efforts & joy of supporting the Dress for Success of Oregon continues, this year we are doing a GIFT CARD project.

Please bring as many Gift cards as you want, in the amount of $5 each!

They can be from stores like:  Fred Meyers, Safeway, Target, etc....

Bring one, bring 3 ... do what you'd like.  We will have a Basket to collect the cards at the Nov & Dec Luncheons (deadline is at Lunch Dec 3rd)

Pam Mason will then take all the cards collected & distribute them to the gals there at DFS for Christmas!   Thanks for joining in to spread the holiday cheer!

                    Extraordinary Women Wanted!

If you are interested in being an active member of the club and serving on a committee, please contact Christine Green  She will provide you with a complete list of available positions and their descriptions.
