Greetings!

Happy End of Summer! Please bring a friend and come have lunch with us Sept 3.  It's a great time to step out and connect, meet new friends and expand your business contacts!
President's Message

Did you know Portlandia is home-grown? Most of the networking groups around town are part of larger organizations. Our dues stay in Portland, as well as our fundraising efforts. The benefit of a local organization is that your voice is heard. Our goals and plans come from the ideas and efforts of our members and not from a national organization.

Our monthly luncheon is just one way to connect with our members. Here are some other tips to getting value from your membership:

1. Update your directory listing online. Let other members know what services you offer.

2. Attend our Portlandia After Hours event - A great way to network and connect. See below for details.

3. Join us for our social time - Next month is Vault Martini Bar! Don't miss the fun!

4. Take a member to coffee - I have seen amazing relationships form out of members getting to know each other.

5. Join a committee - Get involved with making our club a sustainable part of the community.

6. Become a mentor - A great way to give back to the community.

7. Register for the October Communication Workshop - This is a FREE gift in business development that we give to our members. Be sure to take advantage of this powerful workshop.

Your membership in Portlandia is a valuable tool to help you grow your business. Take advantage of the many opportunities to expand your contacts, community and your business. Your participation is greatly appreciated!

Warm regards,

Christine Green
Portlandia President

September Speaker

            Fights Poverty With a  Mouse

Della Rae believes in abundance.  " What we know for sure is that there is more than enough to go around," says the Portland native.  That's why she and her sisiter Deborah formed a nonprofit in 2005 to fight poverty by providing low -income families with household goods.

But Rae realized that they had not scratched the surface of the problem -how to connect those of us who have stuff to give away with those who need it.  Three years later she had an innovative solution!

Hear Rae tell the story of how she took a little dream and made a huge difference, at our Sept 3rd luncheon.

Hone Your Communication Skills

                   With In-depth Workshop

Would you like to get even more practice
   *  Communicating more powerfully in difficult situations?
    * Learning to treat yourself more compassionately?
    * Doing a better job setting boundaries and  saying "no" respectfully?
    * Motivating others without using fear, guilt or shame?

Mentors and mentees have raved about two workshops called Building More Satisfying Relationships by Barbara MacKay, founder and owner of North Star Facilitators. Everyone who attended wanted MORE TIME.  Barbara is back to present a longer workshop to help us hone our skills.

This workshop is open to Portlandia mentors, mentees, and members (you don't have to be a current mentor to attend).

The workshop is Saturday, Oct. 24,  1:30 - 5 p.m. at Dress for Success Oregon, 1532 NE 37th, Portland, OR97232.

The room seats only 40. So it's important that you reserve your place in the workshop by October 15 with  Kathie@timeforsuccess.net or phone Kathie England at 503-531-9466.

Bowling Babes & Buddies

A small but enthusiastic group of Portlandia members, with husbands & kids in tow, had a great night out at the Hollywood Bowling alley.  Our degrees of expertise were all over the board but even beginners threw a few strikes!  We agreed that the pitchers of beer might have helped relax us.

After a couple of games, we drove to Staniches for their famous burgers and (your guessed it) more beer!
All is well that ends well & we went home safe & happy with our designated drivers.

Many thanks to Joan Riley & Linnea Osterberg for arranging this fun event!
                       Are You LinkedIn?

One way to stay connected with other Portlandia members is through the social media site, LinkedIn.  Portlandia Club has a group there.  Once you have created a profile for yourself on LinkedIn ( free), you can join the Portlandia Club's group.
