| Greetings!
Happy Summer! Please bring a friend and come lunch with us August 6th. It's a great time to step out and connect, meet new friends and expand your business contacts! |
| President's Message
Who would have thought scooping ice cream could be so rewarding!! Portlandia members and clients from Dress for Success joined together to scoop ice cream at the Lake Oswego Festival of Arts. Thanks to Portlandia members, Virginia Rubin, Kay Herr and Cheryl Vick for their organization skills, hard work and making the weekend great fun. We had amazing results. Read more about it in Judi's article below. Many thanks to all the members that participated in the weekend.
We were very pleased to present Marcia Harris, Development Director from the Community Transitional School with a check for $1750 at our July meeting. The Community Transitional School is a private school dedicated entirely to the needs of children whose families are homeless, in transition and experiencing chronic poverty-related crises. Their purpose is to provide them with a stable, supportive environment that promotes both their personal and academic growth. We are so grateful for the work they are doing in the community.
Summertime is a great time to stay connected with your Portlandia friends. Invite a member out for an iced tea, a happy hour cocktail, or for a walk in the park. Or join us for bowling on July 30th. We are so fortunate to have amazing members. Don't you agree?!
Warm regards, Christine Green Portlandia President

Portlandia Mentor Resource Team
Our mentoring program is one of the things that makes Portlandia unique. However, not everyone has time to become a mentor. You can still help the program by joining the Mentor Resource Team ( MRT). A Mentor Resource is a member willing to occasionally share her expertise with mentors or their mentees. This can be anything from gardening to financial planning.

Scoops for Scholarships...A Huge Success!
The scene was George Rogers Park on June 26th, 27th and 28th. The heroines were chairs Kay Herr, Virginia Rubin & Cheryl Vick. Along with a supporting cast of Portlandia members, friends, family & DFSO mentees, hundreds of ice-cream scoops filled the stomachs of many happy visiters to the Lake Oswego Festival Of the Arts.
These veteren chairs, did quite a bit of behind the scenes planning. Among other things, there was new signage (Kay), sponsorship funds (Cheryl) & more ice cream than ever before (Virginia)!
Mother nature cooperated in a big way, adding to our huge success. Temperatures in the 80's ran us out of ice-cream, not once but twice! The final outcome was a record profit of over $3,400, which will go to our scholarship fund!
"Thank you" to all who helped, especially Kay, Virginia & Cheryl. You embody the true spirit of giving that sets this club apart.
*Scoops for Scholarships is fast becoming a Portlandia tradition. If you would like to chair this fun committee in 2010,( consultants on standby) please let someone on the board know. |

The Friendliest Club In Town!
Greeters Needed
Making members and guests feel welcome is important in any organization and Portlandia Club gets high marks in this area! As chair of the Greeters committee, I'd love to have 1-2 more women who would be open to helping with this. My ultimate goal is to have enough women so that each person only needs to do this several times a year. This is a great way to be involved in your club without needing to do lots of prep or come to extra meetings! And, it's fun!!
If you want additional info or can help, please email Gloria Nussbaum at real2reel@teleport.com See you at the Club!
