| Greetings!
Happy Summer! Please bring a friend and come lunch with us July 9th. It's a great time to step out and connect, meet new friends and expand your business contacts! Also, please join us for a fun & informative After Hours event on June 18th, at the Heathman Hotel. See article below for speaker details. |
| President's Message
While in Reno visiting a friend, we went to see Menopause the Musical. What a hilarious show! It is an amazing performance that transforms painful and uncomfortable life issues into side-splitting lyrics and music that makes us laugh at ourselves. (I love 'my personal summer is a real bummer.')
I came away with three revelations:
1. If you can't change the circumstances, find the humor in them.It might be changes in our bodies, family illness or just an obnoxious co-worker. Sometimes we may find ourselves in situations where we can't change the circumstances or conditions. The only thing we can do is find the humor!
2. Our bodies evolve daily but our spiritual essence never changes. The dreams and wishes we had as children still hold a place in our hearts. It is so important to take the time to nurture the inner child and find time to play! 3. Be kind to each other. We are so hard on ourselves, demanding the best in all situations. Resist the urge to nag, criticize and badger the women in your life. Instead find a way to remind them that they are remarkable, talented, fabulous, creative, beautiful beings and are deeply appreciated. Consider yourself reminded that You Are AWESOME! Warm regards, Christine Green Portlandia President

Follow-up Workshop for Mentors and Mentees Would you like to get more practice: *Communicating more powerfully in difficult situations? * Learning to treat yourself more compassionately? *Doing a better job setting boundaries and saying "no" respectfully? * Motivating others without using fear, guilt or shame?
Last fall, mentors and mentees raved about a workshop called Building More Satisfying Relationships by Barbara MacKay, founder and owner of North Star Facilitators. Barbara has graciously donated her time to present a follow-up workshop to help us hone our skills. This workshop is open to Portlandia mentors, mentees, and members (you don't have to be a current mentor to attend). The workshop is Saturday, June 27, 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. at Dress for Success Oregon, 1532 NE 37th, Portland, OR 97232. The room seats only 40. So it's important that you reserve your place in the workshop by June 15 with Kathie@timeforsuccess.net or phone Kathie England at 503-531-9466.

Scoops for Scholarships...A Walk in the Park
Calling all scoopers, come join the fun at George Rogers Park on June 26th, 27th and 28th. We'll have our ice cream booth at the Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts for all three days, Friday through Sunday. All proceeds go to our scholarship funds.
There's art, crafts, music, food, drink and, hopefully, a whole lot ofsunshine. This is the most fun you can have while still working and making a difference! Scoops for Scholarships is fast becoming a Portlandia tradition. Sign-up to work a shift in the booth and help us make this the best year, so far.
Friends and family are welcome to work too. So, we encourage you to bring your own team of scoopers, cashiers, hawkers with you and make a working party of it.
There'll be a sign-up sheet at the May and June luncheons or you can contact Kay Herr at kay@baskets-extra.com.

The Friendliest Club In Town!
Greeters Needed
Making members and guests feel welcome is important in any organization and Portlandia Club gets high marks in this area! As chair of the Greeters committee, I'd love to have 1-2 more women who would be open to helping with this. My ultimate goal is to have enough women so that each person only needs to do this several times a year. This is a great way to be involved in your club without needing to do lots of prep or come to extra meetings! And, it's fun!!
If you want additional info or can help, please email Gloria Nussbaum at real2reel@teleport.com See you at the Club!

Are You LinkedIn?

Hail To The Hostess!
On May 19th , Harmony George Jaursch opened her beautiful Lake Oswego home for the ever popular New Member Reception. She was assisted by another long time member & consummate hostess, Cheryl Brendle. As Cheryl blended up Blue Margaritas, we feasted on hearty appetizers by Popp & Company, owned by our own member, Dorcas Popp.
As we welcomed our newest members, we shared stories of why we joined Portlandia & why we stay. Some stories were hilarious and some brought tears to our eyes. In the end, all 19 in attendance came away with a renewed sense of the precious connections we all have made here.
Thank you Harmony & Cheryl!
