Greetings!

We have lots of ways to network and have fun this month! Our outrageous social committee organized a Wine Tasting and Bunko Night. How exciting is that!  Plus don't miss OPB's Emmy Harris at the luncheon. Bring a friend to share in the fun.
President's Message

I recently returned from a ten-day pilgrimage to Israel along with 21 other members of our spiritual community.  It was an amazing trip as we traveled to different parts of Israel stopping at churches and historic sites along the way.  Our small group learned from each other and deepened in our relationships and our faith.

I have found that traveling provides an opportunity to leave my comfort zone and step out into the unknown. Traveling gives me a chance to observe my life at home and come into a place of deep gratitude.

While I was there I reflected on how blessed we are to have our Portlandia community.  I am very grateful to be in this amazing convergence of women.  Each member brings a unique gift to our organization and I am always astonished at the generosity and good will that we share with one another and our partner organizations.

I want to extend my gratitude to all those that have renewed membership in 2009.  We have an exciting year ahead and I am grateful for your commitment. Please contact me with your ideas, suggestions and requests.  Your voice is important to the success of this organization.  Thanks for being in partnership.

Warm Regards,

Christine Green

April Luncheon: Invite a friend to hear OPB's Emily Harris

If you've been thinking of inviting friends to a Portlandia luncheon, April 2 may be just the perfect time to do that.

Our speaker will be award-winning journalist Emily Harris, host of Oregon Public Broadcasting's "Think Out Loud," a daily radio/on-line "talk show" that allows both newsmakers and citizens to discuss current issues.

Harris, who grew up in Portland, has pursued a distinguished reporting career that has taken her to Iraq, Russia and Berlin where she served as a European correspondent for National Public Radio.  For her work in Iraq, she shared in NPR's 2004 George Foster Peabody Award for coverage of the war.

She received her undergraduate degree from Yale University in Russian and East European studies and speaks Russian and German.  Her strong ties to the northwest and grasp of global issues bring a unique perspective to "Think Out Loud."

"I have seen, all over the globe, how people react to the world through the lens of their local experience and how much humans want to learn and talk about how events, happening anywhere, affect them," said Harris.

Her presentation is "Why Talk?  The Power of Conversation."  Don't miss it!

Luncheon menu: Wild Salmon Caesar Salad, Shaved Parmesan cheese, House-made Garlic Croutons -Assorted House-made Cookies

Open networking begins at 11:30 am.

Mentor Moment

Join the Resource Team and Help the Mentorship Program

I know.  You'd love to become a mentor, but you really don't have time right now.  We understand.  But you can still make the program stronger.

What you lack in time, you have in experience, expertise and passion.

The mentoring committee would like you to share what you know.  The committee has been brainstorming ways to make mentors even more effective than they are now.  Members thought one way to help mentors was for provide them with a resource team so that they could draw on the expertise of others in the club.  You can participate as time allows.  It may just be a quick phone call or email from a mentor with a need for a tip or a reference.  It may be a discussion with a mentee.  All up to you.

Please be thinking of what areas of interest and expertise you'd like to share.

Mentor Committee Chair Kathie England will be collecting your lists at Kathie@TimeForSuccess.net
