President's Message
Portlandia has gone through many adjustments this year and I have felt privileged to be part of that. Things that were no longer working have been stripped away to make room for new ideas. Members are volunteering to chair committees that have never done so before. We have a new executive board ready to take the reigns in January and they are committed to doubling our membership! We are continuing to breathe life back into Portlandia and to make adjustments where they are needed. As we go forward, I would ask all of you to renew your commitments to this great club. Get involved if your schedule allows it or support those who can. Each of you is so important to the future of Portlandia! Pay it forward...bring a like-minded woman into the club. As your outgoing president, I would like to thank all of you for your support and kind words of encouragement. That has meant so much to me! I would also like to end here, as I started the year, with this reminder: Be kind to each other. We all have busy lives, worries and heartaches that we might not share. Let's cut each other some slack, give the benefit of the doubt, reserve judgment, count to ten...whatever it takes. 2009 will be full of challenges, so let's lock arms. We are always better together! Happy Holidays and a Bountiful New Year!
Sincerely,
Judi Jones

Mentor Moment
Out of the Ashes - A Mentee's Story
Paula Moore knows what it's like to rise from the bottom. Six years ago she was sitting in a jail cell. The then full-blown meth addict had been arrested for the fifth time. The once vibrant blonde had gray skin and weighed 90 pounds. A sobering four months in jail, support from her parents and a newfound faith set her on the road to recovery. Paula is now happy, successful and beginning a rewarding career. Her Portlandia mentor, Julie McCord, played an instrumental role in setting her on course. Paula will tell us her amazing story at the January 8 Portlandia meeting. Don't miss it.

Bottles of Fun!
On Decemebr 8th, founding member Verena Lewandowski, opened her home to 34 Portlandia members, for our annual Holiday Bottle Party.
Amid beautiful Christmas decorations, we enjoyed a wonderful meal catered by our new board member, Dorcas Popp, of Popp & Company. Her handsome assistant kept our glasses filled and converation was lively.
The "gift game" was great fun, as always, with everyone taking home a bottle of something wonderful. Many kudos to Verena & Dorcas for making this the highlight ending of the year! |

New MEMBER SPOTLIGHTS section coming soon!
In an effort to learn more about each other and our respective businesses, beyond our networking events, we'll be adding a new section of our Newsletter in 2009, titled: "MEMBER SPOTLIGHTS". All members will have the opportunity to have their "spotlight" in this new section.
To kick off the new section, we need 3 members to submit a short article about themselves and their businesses. Content we're looking for is:
How and why did you get involved in your industry or business?
What was an obstacle that you had to overcome?
What do you like most about what you do in your business or job? Please keep your submissions to 100 words or less, so we have ample room to "spotlight" 3 members each month. The first submitted "spotlights" will be published in the February Newsletter. Additional and future submissions will be selected randomly for publication from all that are received. Please submit your "spotlights" to Edrie Bizak, Newsletter Co-Chair, to edrie@tristarsearch.com
