President's Message
March is that "tweener" time of year when the days are getting warmer and staying light longer but the nights can still be cold and the mornings frosty. These are our signals that change is coming, that spring is just around the corner.
Most of us look forward to the change in weather but other change can be harder to adapt to. Portlandia celebrated its 20th anniversary in October and as I looked through our archives, I found evidence of many changes over those years. I saw how the club had changed with the times, changed with the personalities of its 20 presidents and boards and also with new technology.
Most of us don't really like change. I think that it's human nature. Change can seem scary or even threatening, at times. However, the one thing that never changes is that there will always be change! It's best to make changes before something goes wrong and causes a bigger problem. Like the oil in your car or the extra weight around your middle.
As Portlandia moves through 2008, my greatest hope is that we will learn to be patient with each other and maybe forgiving too. We have all come together voluntarily, but with our own agendas. Change is inevitable. Let's move through Portlandia's seasons embracing the changes, being kind to one another and always being the bright light in the room.
Sincerely,
Judi Jones |

Mentor Moment Two Mentees Seek Mentors
How would you like to change another woman's life and recharge your own batteries at the same time? Two women from the Dress for Success Professional Women's Group would like a mentor. Remember, a mentor is simply someone who sees more in you than you do in yourself. All of has a mentor inside us waiting to get out and help someone.
Imagine yourself as a mentor to one of these women:
Shari works full time as a child-and-family therapist. She is single and 31-years-old and looking for a mentor who can help her break out of her shell. Her goals are 1. Getting organized, 2. Budgeting, 3. Setting goals and taking action.
Pat is a single 51-year-old, who is a part-time student in CAD (Computer Assisted Design and Drafting). Says Pat, "I need help getting my life in order again. I want to lose weight, get organized, and improve my credit report. I want to finish school." Her priorities are: 1. Getting organized, 2. Nutrition and exercise, 3. Positive thinking and motivation.
If you would like to become a mentor to one of these or any other woman, please contact Kathie England at 503-531-9566.
