| Greetings! I am pleased to be writing to you as the new president for 2008! This is a great honor, as well as an opportunity to grow personally and to grow our club. I am proud to be serving you, along with an incredible and dedicated board of directors! We are committed to upholding the principals set down for us in 1987, by another group of dynamic business women. To this end, we will be asking for your input, your talents and your friendship, as we move through the year.
Let's be kind to one another and let's be a bright light when we enter a room!
Sincerely,
Judi Jones |

A Great Big Thanks! Linnea saves the day!
Due to an unforseen set of circumstances, our 2007 VP, Audette Kosalka, was not able to take over as president. Board elections were several weeks away and we had no leader! In stepped Linnea Osterberg, to run the January luncheon and conduct the Board retreat for the 2008 board. Thank you for a job well done! You're the best! |
Monthly Luncheon
Portlandia features one of Oregon's most prominent business and civic leaders: Tom Kelly for March
Did you see his NetZero Energy home in Parkdale featured in Sunset Magazine last month?
The very personification of leadership, Tom Kelly of Neil Kelly Design/Building & Remodeling will be our guest speaker for the March 6th luncheon at the Multnomah Athlethic Club at noon. Tom started as a truck driver and laborer in the family remodeling business as one of eight children in the family, rising to Production Manager in 1976 and President in 1979. The company is now the largest remodeling firm in the region, employing 160 people in unique cross-disciplined teams. He has broadened the firm's scope of services, grown its community involvement and led a culture based on sustainable business practices.
While earning national recognition for sustainable building practices, he still champions Portland's neighborhoods and has served as Chairman and President for many nonprofits and trade organizations. Tom will speak about being an effective leader in all these different venues. This is a luncheon you will not want to miss! RSVP deadline: leapday, February 29th at www.portlandia.org.

Mentor Moment Could One of these Women Use YOUR Help?
You could change a woman's self esteem, help her succeed in her career, change her life. Four women from the Dress for Success Professional Women's Group would like a mentor. Remember, a mentor is simply someone who sees more in you than you do in yourself. Someone who is there to listen. Someone who cares. You can be a mentor!
Shelita is 35 and a single mother of 4, including a 9-month-old baby. She is a Hurricane Katrina survivor. She is working as a membership service representative at Kaiser Permanente and is ready to change careers. She has asked for a mentor "who will be understanding". She would like help in all areas of life skills.
Pat is a single 51-year-old, who is a part-time student in CAD (Computer Assisted Design and Drafting). Says Pat, "I need help getting my life in order again. I want to lose weight, get organized, and improve my credit report. I want to finish school." Her priorities are: 1. Getting organized, 2. Nutrition and exercise, 3. Positive thinking and motivation.
Tere is 57 with married, grown children. She works full time as an office manager. She would like help with the following: 1. Speaking and listening skills, 2. Getting organized, 3. Setting goals and taking action.
Mentor commitments are for three months. You and your mentee establish how often to talk, email or meet. To find out more, call Pam Mason, mentee coordinator at 503-249-7300. | |
