What you should know about the VAT - Value Added Tax
If you're thinking about buying an RV now might be the best time to make your best deal. That's a shrinking dollar to the right to denote how the VAT will make your RV buying power a lot smaller :(.
Fox news reported April 9th about the Obama administration's possible plans to create a Value Added Tax to cover rising national debt and yearly deficit spending the Obama administration is planning. New social programs being created, (on a monthly basis), by our Federal Government require additional dollars to pay the immediate cost and finance our existing debt, quickly approaching 13 Trillion dollars with an interest of approximately 300 Billion dollars a month, (more than three times the tax refund dollars returned by the federal government this month).
To educate or stimulate conversation with our valued readers we have included the article for your review and enlightenment. Just remember that getting away this summer in your new RV might just be all the freedom you need to put you in the right spirit for the November mid-term congressional elections.
Here Comes the Biggest Sales Tax You've Ever SeenBy Andrea Tantaros -
FOXNews.com The Obama administration is creating a crisis so that they can solve it
with a mechanism that will serve as the catalyst for future spending on
their massive government
programs. And even though our president said he wouldn't raise taxes on
95% of Americans while he was on the campaign trail, get ready for the
"VAT" -- a move that would raise taxes on everyone.
A new and ugly phrase has recently made its way into the vernacular in this country: the Value Added Tax or VAT tax.
But don't let the term fool you. The "values" that accompany this
legislative fungus are perverse and only "valuable" to the spending
obsessed, socialist liberals who support them. A VAT is a sales tax imposed on every level of a product's path from
production to consumption. It already exists in Europe and many other
struggling countries around the world. It's a sneaky sucker, too, since
it's essentially built in ahead of time and doesn't show up on a
receipt like a sales tax would. If a VAT were in place that iPad you
just bought would be $600 instead of $500. A VAT would pull in massive revenues. Just think: a 10% VAT would produce 1 trillion in revenues. Cash register sounds go off in the minds of every leftist that hears it. Obama and the Democrats are spending SO much that they'll be forced
to invoke a VAT. They are creating a crisis so that they can solve it
with a mechanism that will serve as the catalyst
for future spending on their massive government programs. And even
though our president said he wouldn't raise taxes on 95% of Americans
while he was on the campaign trail, this move would raise taxes on everyone. Here's how it'll go down. This week, we heard former Fed Chairman
Paul Volker float the VAT trial balloon just this week in a speech at
the New York Historical Society, saying it was "not a toxic idea."
Then, on Thursday, current Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernake
mentioned it in a speech -- but only after he said we are on an
unsustainable course with our record high deficits. When questioned thus far about a possible VAT for America the White
House has been quiet, only mildly denying that it's an imminent option.
But doesn't mean it won't be under consideration in a few months. What Obama will say is that he is putting together a commission to find a way to pay down our country's maxed out credit card. Expect that commission to recommend the VAT tax after the 2010
midterm elections. By then, we'll be on the verge of Greece-like
catastrophe and we'll have no choice but to impose a VAT. But only one
that will, coincidentally, go into effect after the 2012 presidential election.
Worse yet - a VAT tax will create a lobbyist feeding frenzy just like the sales tax did.
Right now, special interests across the country - that's everyone from
insurers to car makers to potato growers to soda companies -- are
wondering if they'll be exempt from the tax or included. Believe me,
they'll spend millions to ensure they aren't. It'll be a special
interest circus. Just watch. The Obama administration was supposed to keep lobbyists away from
government, not lure them in with their socialist revenue raising
tricks.
Further, we are a nation of consumers. It's what we do best. Unlike
Germany and Japan who rely largely on exports to run their economies,
70% of our economy is fueled by consumer-based spending. It would be
insanity to punish American consumers with a tax that's bound to impair
that beacon of growth.
This is a sobering moment. Literally and figuratively. Not only does it
mark the end to every reason our ancestors left their countries to seek
a better life in a free and prosperous society, the good folks in
Washington will also be taxing our liquor even more leaving us with
nothing to numb the pain. Andrea Tantaros is a FoxNews.com contributor and conservative columnist. Follow her on Twitter @andreatantaros.

Movie Review "The Insider"
The Insider
tells the true story of a man who decided to tell the world what the
seven major tobacco companies knew (and concealed) about the dangers of
their product. Jeffrey Wigand (Russell Crowe)
was a scientist employed in research for a tobacco firm, Brown and
Williamson. Not long after he was fired by Brown and Williamson, Wigand
came into contact with Lowell Bergman (Al Pacino), a producer for 60 Minutes who worked closely with journalist Mike Wallace (played here by Christopher Plummer).
Bergman arranged for Wigand to be interviewed by Wallace for a 60
Minutes expose on the cigarette industry, though Wigand was still bound
by a confidentiality agreement not to discuss his employment with the
company. Despite Wigand's willingness to talk, CBS pulled his interview
from at the last minute after Brown and Williamson threatened a
multi-billion dollar lawsuit. The staff of 60 Minutes and CBS News were
soon embroiled in an internal struggle over the killing of the story,
and Wigand found himself the subject of lawsuits and a smear campaign,
without his full story reaching the public. The Insider was directed by Michael Mann and also features Diane Venora, Philip Baker Hall, Debi Mazar, Colm Feore, and Rip Torn. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
Blockbuster members rate this as a 4 star movie: (what did others say?)
One of the things I like about older films are the scripts. This seems
to be sadly lacking in present day films. "The Insider" is quite an
exception. Russell Crowe is excellent as the whistleblower, and some
truly jaw-dropping information about the tobacco industry comes out for
all to see. There were times when I thought Christopher Plummer was
actually Mike Wallace. Al Pacino is, as usual, brilliant. But the great
dialogue is what kept me glued to the screen. I've watched it several
times and keep appreciating how good it is!
The Insider and Black Hawk Down are probably the finest
docudrama ever made in my estimation. I am not trying to be snobbish
with this next statement. You need to be interested in day to day
events that effect our lives in general, and be interested in what
drives us as individuals, otherwise you might find this movie boring
The movie follows the true events of the day, and how it effects all
those involved. The film revolves around Jeffery Wiegand portrayed by
Russell Crowe, a PM VP, and Lowell Bergman, portrayed by Al Pacino,
producer for Mike Wallace of 60 Minutes. This is in short, the story of
two men that put everything on the line for the truth, However your
left with the feeling that the motives for one might be about an ego
vers the truth. This is a keeper and a must for any serious DVD
collection
This film is the complete package: Not only is the story of Big Tobacco
vs. Everyman compelling, but the casting, acting, script - and even the
musical score - is all top notch. Russell Crowe's character is so far
outside of the characters he usually plays that I didn't even recognize
him at first. Top shelf all around.
Check out the trailer...as in movie trailer! What did we think?(4-5 stars) Great movie that will keep you in your chair munching popcorn. The acting is very well done and you feel the weight of the issue before you. Good movie if you want to get a handle on spin and how the media medicates us the public and keeps you and I dreaming of our greatest achievements. Was that heavy? |
John C. Fleming M.D. Fourth Congressional District Louisiana
I got this e-mail today from John Fleming, congressman from the 4th district in Louisiana. He is working to get house resolution 615 amended to the Health Care bill now passed into law, (pending repeal), which calls on members of congress to enroll into the newly created federal health care exchanges, called the public option. I applaud Congressman Fleming for his efforts and truly believe that to lead and create law is to lead by example. All members of congress from both the house and senate should gladly sign into the public option of health care. Please support John in his efforts by following the links below, understanding his cause and letting your voice be heard with his.
FLEMING HEALTH CARE UPDATE As the author of H Res 615, a resolution calling on Members
of Congress to enroll in the public Health Care plan, I have an
important update.
Due to an overwhelming response from
Americans across the country to my office, the health bill recently signed
into law will indeed force members of Congress to abandon their federal
health benefits and enroll in the newly created exchanges.
While we have won the first round, we may have not won the war.
There is a move afoot to "fix" the language of this
provision.
That's why it is important for me to communicate
with you and provide you with information as it is available to me.
A great way to do this is to follow me on Twitter at www.twitter.com/repfleming.
Please
sign up today....let's be sure this provision isn't
undone! www.twitter.com/repfleming
Together, we can make sure the people's voice is
heard. Sincerely,
JOHN FLEMING,
M.D. Member of Congress
