 Alice Reiter Feld
is an Attorney licensed to practice law in both Florida and New York States, as well as before the United States Court of Appeals for Veteran's Claims; and is a Board Certified Elder Law Specialist by The Florida Bar and The National Elder Law Foundation. She is "AV" rated by Martindale Hubbell. At the helm of her private practice for over 27 years, Ms. Feld has advocated for senior citizens and their family members on elder care options, and the importance and value of engaging an elder law attorney to determine, plan and execute an elder care strategy. Her primary areas of practice under the 'Elder Law Umbrella' include long-term care needs planning, asset protection planning, estate planning, probate, Veteran's Benefits and Medicaid planning and assistance. Ms. Feld is an official member of Florida Bar's Speaker Bureau, and has addressed, Estate Planning and Elder Law to, amongst many others, the students of law at NOVA Southeastern University School of Law, SunTrust's Deans Business Roundtable and elder care professionals at Hospice-by-the-Sea. Ms. Reiter Feld is also a volunteer attorney for Broward Lawyer's Care; an active member of the Elder Law section of the Florida Bar; and is former board member for the Alzheimer's Family Center in Broward County, Florida. Ms. Feld is a member in good standing of the National Association of Elder Law Attorneys, where she has served on the Steering Committee of the Trust Special Interest Group; was recently honored as a "Florida Super Lawyer" by Law and Politics magazine; and is a lecturer-at-large throughout Broward County, a member of the Veterans Advocates Group of America, LLC (VAGA), and the Academy of Special Needs Planners (ASNP). Leonard R. Hock, Jr., D.O., CMD
has joined Hospice by the Sea, Inc. as chief medical officer with responsibility for supporting the medical and nursing staff in their effort to provide exceptional care and support for patients and families receiving hospice and palliative care services. Dr. Hock is recognized as a leader in end-of-life care and the care of geriatric patients. He was the senior vice president of medical services for Covenant Hospice, a Pensacola-based hospice provider serving 35 counties in Florida and Alabama. In the 25 years prior, he was in private practice in Kansas City and served as medical director for numerous skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, hospice organizations, and hospital-based geriatric clinics. Dr. Hock is a certified medical director (CMD) of long term care facilities and has been a member of the American Medical Directors Association since 1996 and serves on the board of directors. His widely recognized work as a medical director has led to appointments on the Missouri Best Practices Committee, which is charged with improving the standard of care for patients in long-term care facilities, and the Kansas Medicaid Task Force, which focuses on end-of-life issues for nursing home patients. In October 2009, Dr. Hock was elected to the board of directors of the Florida Medical Directors Association and has since been appointed to chair the hospice subsection. |
The Reverend Darla C. Broden
is a Chaplain for VITAS Innovative Hospice, serving patients in six nursing homes and five assisted living facilities in Northwest Broward County. She received the Florida Hospice and Palliative Care Association Storybook Award for 2010. She regularly incorporates story into her work with her patients and has written several original stories for patients, staff and families. Rev. Broden was named Broward Chaplain of the year in 2006 .She serves as the cochair of the Ethics Committee. She provides instruction on ethics and living wills to VITAS new hires as well as nursing home staffs. She also lectures on domestic violence and the psychosocial/ spiritual dimensions of care of patients. She has facilitated bereavement support groups for adults and children. Chaplain Broden received her Masters of Divinity from Candler School of Theology, Emory University in 2002. She completed a two year chaplaincy residency through Emory Center for Pastoral Education with a specialty in transplantation. She is currently a Supervisory Education Student in VITAS' Clinical Pastoral Education program. Before accepting her call into ministry, she received a Bachelor of Science, with honor in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University, and a Jurist Doctorate, cum laude, from Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Texas Southern University. She has been licensed to practice law in the states of Texas and Michigan and in the Federal Courts. She served as Assistant City Attorney for the city of Flint, Michigan for 9 years.
