Greetings!
On the wall next to the Resource Center in our office are three posters: One of the NYC Subway System (before 9/11), one of Woodstock, the other of Rosie the Riveter.
The inspiration for the "Rosie the Riveter" picture passed away last week. Geraldine Hoff Doyle was 17 years old when that picture was taken and the banner "We Can Do It!" was not only a symbol of women's power during the war but has become a symbol and inspiration for women for almost 70 years.
"We Can Do It!" has been reproduced frequently on a variety of items and has become a symbol of women's power for almost 70 years. 70 years ago I couldn't have even considered becoming a lawyer. There were many women during the "women's lib movement" who paved the way for those of us who came after but let's not forget the contribution of those women who contributed so faithfully during the war effort. They allowed the men to fight the war and sewed the seeds for the women's movement that followed.
Not surprisingly, these "non-veteran" women do not enjoy the veteran's benefits of the actual war veterans. However, if they are the surviving spouse of a war time veteran, there is funding for some long term care.
Our thanks to Mrs. Doyle and the millions of others like her.
