Greetings!
Tomorrow is National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day
On Sunday morning, December 7, 1941, the American Army and Navy base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii was attacked by the Imperial Japanese Navy. The attack came as a surprise to the American Army and Navy and lead to great losses of life and equipment. More than 2000 American citizens were killed and more than 1000 were injured. The Americans also lost a large proportion of their battle ships and nearly 200 aircraft that were stationed in the Pacific region.
By the end of World War II, the U.S. had 16 million veteran's of the US armed forces. Approximately 1.5 million are still living and are dying at the rate of 900 per day.
My father is one of those surviving veterans. He will be 90 in 3 months. He is only now telling us about the horrors he endured during his 3+ years of service.
Because our office specializes in obtaining Veteran's benefits for long term care needs, I have had the privilege to hear a number of unbelievable "real" war stories. It saddens me to think that soon all of our WW2 vets "will belong to the ages." By the way, it is customary to fly a flag at half staff on this day of remembrance.
