Greetings!
Many seniors moved down many years ago, healthy active seniors. My parents and my husband's parents were among them. But time marches on.
My in-laws, very active in the community, passed away 5 years ago within 2 months of each other, after each had incapacitating illnesses for more than 2 years. My parents, golfers and travelers, are now 88 and 89, and have a full time live in aide. They could not attend their granddaughter's wedding in NY in June.
I can assure you.
Not 1 of the 4 of them planned
on becoming incapacitated.
Illness and incapacity can happen to anyone at any time. But, if we want to avoid the extraordinary costs, undue hardship and the real possibility of running out of money, than we need to protect and plan. That's why October is designed Long Term Care Planning Month. And that's why the Department of Health and Human Services, Administration on Aging has created a program. (See below)
1 in 5 Americans have unmet long term care needs. Long Term Care Insurance covers only 1% of the long term care costs in this country. Long Term Care Planning allows us to protect assets and plan for the time a family needs long term care, legally and honestly, before the wallet is empty!
Ask any senior citizen what their biggest fear is. The answer is always, "Running out of money". How do I know? Because I ask every senior citizen who comes into my office!
The primary goal of any of our long term care plans is to protect our clients legally and honestly, to give them peace of mind; to help them stretch their funds for as long as possible and to help them find, access and pay for good long term care.
