Famous WWII Nurse Passes;
A Time to Remember the Sacrifice. | |

Greetings!
 That famous picture of the sailor clutching and kissing a nurse in Times Square at the end of World War II is imbedded in all of our psyches. Recently that famous nurse, Edith Shain, 91, passed away. The "kisser", who people still dispute, claims to be Carl Muscarello, 83, a retired NYC detective who lives right here in Broward County.
Ms. Shain's passing and Mr. Muscarello's reminiscence of that event not only symbolizes the Allied victory, but should remind us all that there are many veteran's who sacrificed a great deal for our country, and are now very elderly senior citizens who may now need their nation to support them in their later years.
A once "little known" and now much more discussed is the "Aid and Attendance" benefit available for many veteran's who now because of age and infirmity need some help with their daily lives. The benefit can provide up to approximately $2000 per month for the veteran and $1000 per month for the surviving spouse of a veteran.
