RE: HOUSE BILLS 141 AND 981 ANNUITY CONTRACTS FOR SENIORS
Dear Representative Patterson:
It has come to my attention that the legislature has not scheduled a hearing on the "annuity protection for seniors" bill.
Many organizations, including the Elder Law bar and AARP has a legislative position which states: "We support legislation that enhances and increases the protection of vulnerable adults wherever they reside . . ." I am very concerned that you have not yet scheduled either HB 141 or HB 981, which deal with annuity contracts for seniors, for a hearing in your Insurance, Business & Financial Affairs Policy Committee.
There is a great need for the protections and sanctions that these Bills provide for seniors across our state and it is imperative that these bills be heard. I am one of many seniors/professionals who have witnessed the damage and devastation that improper annuity contracts have on their lives and their ability to age with dignity. Florida seniors need the protections and sanctions that these bills provide and we respectfully request that you bring these bills before your committee so they can move through the legislative process for the protection of Florida's seniors.
Sincerely,
Cc: Speaker Larry Cretul
