It's the question that every parent has: What can I do to help my child achieve academic success?
A group of Harvard researchers says the answer may be the degree to which parents engage their children in rich dialogue throughout their lives.
On Wednesday, February 24, at 7 p.m., Dr. Nonie Lesaux and her research team at Harvard University will
present their trailblazing work
on the importance of higher level vocabulary and
dialogue in children's learning. The title of their
presentation is, "Let's Talk: Keys to Your Child's Academic Success."
"Our discussion will offer ideas for having conversations with your children that will have them thinking about new concepts and new ideas they've never contemplated before," says Dr. Lesaux. "With innovative thinking comes higher level vocabulary and comprehension, that then crosses over into children's studies."
Dr. Kathleen McCartney, Dean of the Harvard Graduate School of Education, said Dr. Lesaux's work is "already changing education policy in the United States."
Admission to this special event is free. It will take place on February 24 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Milas Hall at the Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering in Needham.
