The Changing Faces of the NEF

We are excited to announce Pamela Rosin as the new co-president of the NEF. She will join Frank Fortin to lead the organization in 2009-2010.

Pamela has served the NEF for the last two years in an array of instrumental roles including:  co-chair of the Small Grants Committee, development of the NEF web site, and database development for the Annual NEF Spelling Bee. She has been intricately involved with the Cultural Arts programs of the Needham Public Schools as chair of Eliot's Cultural Arts committee and co-chair of the Needham Cultural Arts Council. Pamela moved to Needham in 1994 having emigrated from South Africa with her husband, Jonathan. They have a son at Pollard and a daughter at Eliot.

Pamela will succeed Carolyn Perelmuter, who was an exemplary leader during her two years as co-president. Carolyn's term boasted the foundation's largest grant awards year ever, followed by another successful year in spite of difficult economic times. We would like to commend Carolyn for her sure, steady and successful guidance.

Following in these exceptional footsteps are our talented new board members:  Alison Dick, Seth Evans, Don Gratz, Karen McCalley, Lisa Tanzer, Leslie Falk Tillotson, Mark Ward, and Anne Weinstein.

We would also like to extend a hearty thank you to board members who have completed their last year of service. It is the generosity of the people of Needham, both volunteers and donors, who continue to make the NEF a grand success.
NEF Issues Eight Spring Grants
Thanks to the generosity of the Needham community, we were able to award eight spring grants this year, totaling $29,190. Five schools, from the preschool to the High School as well as the new High Rock School for 6th grade were among the recipients. In addition to the schools, we were also pleased to present the Science Center with a grant to continue the inventory and cataloging of its materials for easier educator access.

The Spring awards complete the annual grant cycles of the NEF for the 2008-2009 school year. Twenty grants worth $83,459 were awarded during this year.

Concluding An Eventful Year

We want to end our last newsletter of the year with a big THANK YOU to everyone who supported the NEF during the past year. Despite the difficult economy, Needham residents continue to step forward and generously provide the resources that allow us to continue serving the children of Needham.

We promise to continue fulfilling the vision of NHS alumnus Ralph Leader and his classmates, who started this organization nearly 20 years ago to "make learning come alive" in our public schools.

Have a great summer, and see you in the fall!
