Employee of the Month: Ana Fernandez-Ziya

Congratulations to Ana Fernandez-Ziya, our employee of the month!  Ana now has the distinguished honor of being AZA's first two-time winner, as she was recognized last year and now has been nominated again by another family.  That's some good work!!

According to Viji Mahadevan, AZA parent:

Ana is a very caring, hardworking individual that has positively impacted Abinav's life since she started working with him about a year and a half ago. Until she came, our home was a revolving door for providers who either did not stay too long or did not show interest in what they were doing with Abinav. Ana has been such a wonderful person and right from the start, her loving nature along with her consistency, punctuality and sincerity giving 100% to what she does has helped Abinav come a long way. He now enjoys going to the library with Ana, does puzzles on his own which he had trouble with before, sits still when she gives him a haircut (as opposed to previously when he would keep crying). Ana has also successfully engaged Abinav in playing with his twin brother on community outings to the park, mall, playground, etc. Our whole family loves seeing Ana interact with Abinav and the unconditional love she gives him cannot be replaced, making Ana a part of our family rather than his just habilitation provider. The photo of Abinav hugging Ana shows so well the special bond they share. We are delighted in nominating Ana for "Employee of the Month" with AZA United!

Parents - do you have a habilitation therapist that goes above and beyond?  A great way to say thank you is to send your nominations for the next Employee of the Month to GreatWork@AZAunited.org

Join us for "Corks & Conversation"
Wine Tasting - April Come join Arizona Autism United friends and families for a relaxing evening of wine tasting and hors d'oeuvres!  On Tuesday, November 15, we will be hosting guests at The Living Room in Chandler from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.  In addition to good conversation and company we will have a silent auction with some exciting items to bid on.  All funds raised will support important programs for children with autism and their families.  This event is open to the public, so invite your friends!  Tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased online.  Visit the event website for more details to register.  All food and wine is included with your ticket!  We look forward to seeing you there.

2012 Conference Preview - Save the Date!
Plans are underway for the second annual Spring Conference for Parents & Professionals!  Save the date for the weekend of February 17 and 18 (President's Day weekend).  Friday the 17th will be focused on topics for professionals and Saturday the 18th for parents, but of course everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend both days.  Registration for one day only will be available.  Tracks featured will include ABA, Habilitation, Education, Parenting, and Accessing Services.  With the opening of the Sports & Fitness Center next door, we will also be adding some hands-on group activities including yoga, physical fitness and gymnastics!  In breakout areas we will have a number of fun and interesting activities such as crafts and sensory games to play with children, networking with parents and habilitators, support groups, and videos.  On Friday night we will host a reception as well as the Great Hearts awards!  You will get to hear some of our staff tell their stories about what inspires them to help children with autism.

We are now scheduling speakers and specific presentations and would love your input!  Is there someone you would like to see, or a topic that interests you?  Please send your suggestions to  conference@AZAunited.org.  We look forward to making this a great event for the autism community with your help!

Choose AZA for Employee Giving Campaigns
Did you know that Arizona Autism United is a member charity of Community Health Charities of Arizona?  At this time of year, many companies are conducting employee giving campaigns, either through CHC of AZ, United Way, or independently.  No matter who is facilitating the campaign, you can designate Arizona Autism United as your charity of choice!  With recent cuts in government funding, the need for support has never been higher.  In 2012 we will be rolling out a series of new programs and improved services including Helping Hands, Peer Sensitivity Training, and Social Groups.  In order to meet the needs of the community and make these programs available for families of all income levels, AZA United relies on community support.  You can make a donation directly to AZA United anytime by visiting www.AZAunited.org, or if you or someone you know is participating in a giving campaign at work, list Arizona Autism United and our tax ID number of 16-1738730 to make sure your donation goes directly toward helping children with autism in need of services today.  Thank you for your support!

Thanks for all you do, and don't forget to tell us what else we can do...for you!
