Miracle Run

"Miracle Run" is an inspiring movie based on a true story of twin boys with autism.

Join us for an Ice Skating Family Event
Ice skating

The holidays are in the air, and what better way to celebrate it than ice skating with AZA United families and friends!  Join us at the Coyotes Den in Scottsdale on Saturday, December 18th, from 12 to 2 pm.  Each AZA United child will get one free admission coupon and skates rental the day of the event. Parents, siblings, habilitators and friends interested in skating along can also participate for $6 each, which includes admission and skates. Training walkers will be available to rent for a $3 fee. Remember to bring socks!  Please register soon as we have limited availability.  Registration closes on Thursday the 16th or when we reach capacity.  You can register on our website or by clicking here.  Hope to see you there!

AZA Habilitators: We want your stories!

Working each day with a child affected by autism can be challenging, but your hard work is rewarded every time you see a new step of progress. It's time to share your story!  Arizona Autism United would like to honor your dedication to helping children with autism and share your stories with other families, habilitation therapists, and the community at large. Your stories provide hope, inspiration, and awareness of the value of the work you do each day.  Please send your stories of success to GreatHearts@AZAunited.org by December 15th!  Each of your stories will be entered into a contest, and winners will receive prizes and recognition.

For this holiday season, the grand prize winner will receive a cash prize of $250!

CARD Parent Training Opportunity
CARD logo The Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) has a great opportunity available for parents who would like to participate in a free and extensive online ABA training.  This eLearning program consists of videos and slides discussing the major components of ABA for children with autism.  It can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection on your own schedule.  CARD is conducting a study on the effectiveness of this type of training for parents, so if you are interested we encourage you to take advantage of this free opportunity!  For more details and to sign up, click here.

New ISP Preparation Workshop for Parents
AZA United has a new monthly ISP Preparation Workshop available to all AZA parents.  The next class will be on December 15th, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.  Please contact us by phone or email paulina@azaunited.org to sign up.  The purpose of these workshops is to help families prepare for your next ISP, IFSP or 90 day review meeting.  We recommend attending at least 2 months in advance of your meeting date if possible, and you are welcome to attend more than once.  The workshop will include a review of DDD service descriptions and policies, resources for drafting appropriate and individualized functional outcomes, and general tips on how to conduct a productive meeting.  The next date will be weekday evening in January.  Please register as soon as possible to hold your spot!

AZA United would like to thank the Arizona Association for Economic Development (AAED) for providing a grant to make this new program possible!

Your Donations Help AZA United Families
Founding Donors With the end of the year quickly approaching, many families and individuals around the valley are making plans for their annual charitable giving.  If that includes you or someone you know, here are some ways that a donation to AZA United will help families around the valley next year:

Helping Hands

AZA United will soon be launching a new program called "Helping Hands," an ongoing individualized program consultation model.  This program helps fill the gap for families who do not qualify for Hab M or Steven's Law.  Each family who participates will work collaboratively on a monthly basis with a Program Coach to identify the most pressing current needs and develop an intervention strategy or solution to carry out with the team of habilitation therapists. The habilitation team will also receive additional training and have an identified team lead to enhance the overall functioning of the program.  Please consider a donation of $50 to $100 to support this new program!

Community Lending Library
We are now in the process of building a Community Lending Library for families with toys, books, videos, teaching supplies, and therapy equipment that our clinicians and families have recommended.  The purpose of the library is a "try before you buy" model.  We all know that it is hard to predict what things will work for any particular child, and often those things are not cheap!  So with the Lending Library, you will have a chance to check out some items you are most interested in for your child for one month.  You can help complete our collection by donating items you recommend but no longer need, such as books, videos, toys, teaching supplies, or therapy/sensory equipment.  Or, make a cash donation of $25 to $50 to help us purchase the best supplies available for our families.

Founding Donors
With the end of the year, AZA United will be concluding the Founding Donors campaign.  We are enormously grateful for all of the individuals that have committed their time, energy and funds to help AZA United better serve the local autism community.  If you or someone you know would be interested in becoming a Founding Donor for $1000 before the end of the year, please view this flyer.

Arizona Autism United is a public charity, so all donations are tax-deductible within the limits of the law.  We will provide you with a receipt for your records.

Donations can be made online at www.AZAunited.org or please contact us if you would like to mail or drop off items at the office.

Thank you for your support, and have a happy holiday season!!

Thanks for all you do, and don't forget to tell us what else we can do...for you!
