401K Plans for All!
401k You've been hearing about it for months, wondering if it was all too good to be true - well, wonder no more.  We are excited to announce that beginning October 1st, 401K plans will be available to AZA United employees!   Whether part-time or full-time, in the office or in the field, all employees of AZA United have a chance to participate.  Free support services, including setting up your individual plan and making investment decisions, is also included!  We believe in promoting independence and life skills for our employees as well as our kids, and this is one more way for us to create that opportunity for success.  More information will be distributed soon by mail and e-mail, so stay tuned - enrollment meetings are just weeks away.  If you have any questions in the meantime, contact our Benefits Department.

Time to Sharpen the Old Ice Skates
Ice skating Plans are underway for another sports activity for children on the autism spectrum - ice skating!  Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 15th.  Our kids will have the ice to themselves for 2 hours at a local rink in North Scottsdale, as well as the assistance of 5 private coaches.  As usual there is no cost for member families of AZA United to participate (including parents and siblings), and habilitators are welcome to join us as well.  Anyone who would like to volunteer or sponsor this event and be part of the fun should contact us!  We are also looking forward to our basketball camp coming up on two consecutive Saturdays, October 4th & 11th, in Scottsdale.  Registration information for that event will also be announced soon.  Hope to see you there!

Commission on Disability Issues
Mayor's Commission The Mayor's Commission on Disability Issues for the City of Phoenix recently added Aaron Blocher-Rubin, Executive Director of AZA United, as a new member.  The Commission's purpose is to review local, regional and national disability programs and provide recommendations about opportunities and issues affecting residents with disabilities to the city's administration, the Mayor and the City Council.  There are also three committees on the Commission: Architectural Accessibility and Design, Community Awareness and Education, and Transportation and Access.

Social Networking for Habilitators
Meeting Don't miss the next Social Network for Autism Providers meeting in your neighborhood!  Check the dates listed in the Upcoming Events section of this newsletter, under Habilitator Roundtables.  Lead staff members of AZA United host S.N.A.P. meetings for our employees around the valley at local restaurants.  Come and share your experiences (while maintaining confidentiality, of course), ask questions, and get ideas and inspirations from your colleagues.  These meetings are also a great time to ask questions about policies or procedures, inquire about career advancement or professional development opportunities, and become part of a social network that shares your enthusiasm for the good work you do.  For more information or to RSVP for an upcoming meeting, contact Ehren Werntz, Program Manager for AZA United.

Family Gets Creative to Raise Funds
TradeNow One of our families has thought of a great way to raise dollars for autism research without having to strain themselves and their friends financially during these challenging economic times, and they are inviting you to join them.  Visit their website, www.TradeNowForAutism.blogspot.com, to learn more about how to trade, sell and donate items that will make a difference for the future of individuals with autism.

Thanks for all you do, and don't forget to tell us what else we can do...for you!
