Don't Miss the Annual Meeting! Do you like what AZA United has to offer? Do you think it could be better? Now is your chance to be heard. Every year, families of AZA United congregate at the Annual Members' Meeting to share their ideas and vote on important issues that will guide us into the future. All of our families are encouraged to attend! This meeting is central to the concept of a Human Service Co-op. It is also when we elect new Board members and review the organization's budget and strategic plan. More info will be sent out soon to our families, including Board Nomination forms (any Member is eligible). For this year, we have chosen to make it a very family-friendly event, outdoors in a setting where kids can play while parents get down to business. We are still finalizing the location so watch for an announcement by mail and email. In the meantime, SAVE THE DATE - Saturday afternoon, April 26th. It's an event you won't want to miss with lots of great information and a few surprises to reward you, the parents, for all your hard work (rumor has it there may be free back massages...). |

Autism Insurance Bill Passes On March 21, 2008, Governor Janet Napolitano signed the autism insurance bill known as "Steven's Law" into a law after it passed out of the House and Senate. The bill will go into effect July 1, 2009. This effort was a huge victory for the thousands of parents, professionals, volunteers and supporters that helped out along the way. A summary of the impact that this legislation will have, along with much more related information, can be found online at www.azautisminsurance.org. |

ASU Autism Club Helps Out The ASU Autism & Asperger's Club is up and running, having fun and making a difference! One of our own habilitators started the club last year and recently participated in ASU's "Devils in Disguise" volunteer event. The actvity of choice was making visual supports for children on the autism spectrum. These included token boards, picture sequences and visual schedules. They also cut out and sorted by category hundreds of picture communication cards (commonly used with the PECS program). AZA United is now offering these free to any family in need! Contact us to get your visual supports anytime. Three more wild and crazy events have been scheduled this month for The Club: Art Night for Children with Autism on April 21st, Movie Night showing "Mozart & the Whale" on April 23rd, and Nando's Night (a Mexican cafe) on April 28th. If you would like to attend any of these or get more information, contact Nina. |

Getting Ready for Summer Summer is approaching fast and, with that, changing schedules. Here at AZA United we are doing all we can to plan ahead and make sure your family has the support you need to make this summer a great one. Parents, give us a call to let us know what additional hours you will need covered. Employees, let us know if you are interested in picking up more habilitation or respite hours over the summer. Stay tuned as AZA United is working on some fun summer activities for our providers to do with our kids. If you have an idea, let us know! Or better yet, bring it to the Annual Meeting. |

"Hab M" is Now Available AZA United recently was approved by DDD to provide Behavioral Habilitation - Masters, more commonly known as "Hab M." This service, which is available for children under age 3 (and continues through age 5), involves a comprehensive skills and behavior assessment followed by the creation of an individually designed behavioral habilitation (ABA) program. It also includes demonstration and hands-on training of the program's activities and objectives, including data collection procedures. Any family whose child is eligible for this service may contact us to schedule an appointment. There is no waiting list to get started and we will serve families anywhere in the valley. |
