Save Money, Save the Earth
|
|
| Summer always gets us thinking about the beauty of the natural world, especially since we live in a place as lovely as Maine. It's something we should cherish and preserve, which is the idea behind two "Green Energy Financing" options now available through Northeast Bank.
These innovative packages help finance and promote renewable and clean energy resources. They also can both help families reduce their carbon footprints and save money.
We also are encouraging the use of eco-friendly products and environmentally friendly building products. |

Keeping Green |
|
Everybody's watching pennies these days, but you can take steps to care for the environment without spending a lot of money. In fact, many good-for-the-earth actions can even keep much-needed money in your pocket.
For example, unplug appliances that don't really need to be in the socket all the time. They generally require standby energy that isn't doing anything except drawing down electricity and costing you money.
Thinking about your shopping habits can keep a lot of pollution out of the atmosphere and money in your purse.
Try combining errands, so as to cut down on the miles you have to drive. And while you are there, window shop and browse for next time, so that you don't find yourself buying items on impulse that you don't really need.
A few simple steps like that can go a long way toward keeping the world green this summer.

Greetings!
Reaching Out

Northeast Bank has always been concerned about the communities we serve, and I am proud of the many things we've accomplished - both through our business activities and our charitable efforts - in the nearly 28 years I've been Chief Executive Officer.
Even so, I can't think of another time when it was more important to invest in our communities and to offer struggling neighbors a helping hand. That's why I am so pleased with what Northeast has accomplished recently in both regards, as we move into the summer season.
We continue to grow our business to better serve our customers, to donate our time and resources to important community projects, and to prepare for unexpected challenges. That work is part of being a community bank, and we're gratified to see that people are recognizing more than ever the value of community banks. Both our deposits and our mortgage lending are on the rise.
Because Northeast cares about you and the area in which we live, we hope you will consider us as you evaluate your additional banking and insurance needs. This is the perfect time of year for a financial spring cleaning.
Ask your banker about whether this is the right time to refinance your mortgage, consolidate bills or move savings into a certificate of deposit. And sit down with your insurance professional to ensure you have the coverage you need and that you are getting it at the right price. We're here to help.
All the best,
President and CEO |

Helping Rebuilid Downtown |
| Doing its part to spur reinvestment in economically challenged areas of the community, Northeast Bank provided financing to Birch Hill Apartments, which broke ground recently in downtown Lewiston. The project will offer 20 units targeted at area seniors aged 55 and older, located on a 15-year vacant lot at the corners of Birch and Bates streets. The one- and two-bedroom units will be available to low-income households.
The housing project is being made possible through the efforts of Portland-based Developers Collaborative and involves a public-private partnership. Construction is scheduled for completion in December, with occupancy on January 1, 2010.

AudioBody on Tour |
Two brothers who've made a splash in the music and entertainment business will be touring under the sponsorship of Northeast Bank. Starting June 26 at the Portland Performing Arts Center, Matt and Jason Tardy - known as AudioBody - will be bringing their show to southern and central Maine. As part of the Northeast Bank Tour, they'll also be performing in Topsham, Auburn and Bethel. AudioBody came out with its first album in 2004, and gained national attention when their music was featured in two Emmy nominated videos depicting "The Extreme Diet Coke and Mentos Experiments." The brothers released a second album in 2007, and have performed around the country - and even overseas - since then. |

Join Us Online |
More and more people are communicating and learning new things online, which is why Northeast has been in the forefront in Maine, using social media technologies such as Twitter and Facebook. We are making sure that our company is able to engage you through both traditional means and online.
As part of that, we've teamed up to have some fun on YouTube with EepyBird, the guys who are best known for the Mentos-Diet Coke phenomenon and recently won two "Webby" awards for a video that shows them creating waterfalls and other phenomenon out of Post-It notes.
A German television crew came to the Northeast Bank headquarters in Lewiston to film EepyBird perform a number of similar " experiments" with Post-It notes. You can see the resulting video on Northeast Bank's YouTube Channel. |

Citizen of the Year
Many members of the Northeast Bank family make valuable contributions to their communities, and we are proud of them all. But we're particularly happy to see the recognition that Gerry Gilbert, an employee with Northeast's Spence & Mathews Insurance Agency, received in being given the Citizen of the Year award, as chosen by the Rochester Chamber of Commerce in New Hampshire. Gerry has made a name for himself for his advocacy for youth and economic development.
