Greetings!
What a Ride.
The economy is experiencing unprecedented ups and downs. Everyone is being affected in some fashion, with friends or family out of work, investment portfolios down by as much as 50% and confidence in the future on shaky ground. But a bright light continues to shine for our customers: There is no credit crunch at Northeast Bank. Customers are finding the mortgage, personal and business loans they need to keep going. And in this economy, that's saying something.

Stonger Than Ever
Northeast Bank, a mainstay in Maine since 1872, is stronger now than ever before. Which is why the bank was accepted to participate in the Capital Purchase Program (CPP), initiated by the U.S. Treasury Department. This voluntary program, designed for healthy, public banks, was launched to encourage community lending. In December 2008, Northeast Bank tapped approximately $4.2 million in additional capital, made available at very favorable rates through the CPP, which we have put right back into our communities in the form of new loans.
Unfortunately, many in the media are painting all banks with the same brush, confusing the CPP program with TARP, the Troubled Asset Recovery Program. Although authorized by the same legislation, TARP is a very different program, set up for large national banks with huge volumes of bad loans. Rest assured Northeast Bank is not, and never will be a participant in TARP. Learn more about our involvement in CPP. | | |
