Business Owners Survey

BROADBAND/TELECOMMUNICATION SURVEY
ATTENTION POWHATAN BUSINESS OWNERS!

Please take a minute to complete the Survey on
the County Website

As you may be aware, Powhatan County has been awarded a grant to evaluate the broadband/telecommunication needs for businesses.
One step in this project is for Powhatan County to conduct a business survey.
Both the Chamber of Commerce and the Retail Merchants Association
have been asked to distribute the link to their members.

The survey can be accessed on-line and will be available
through September 30, 2009.
Staff will be compiling the information beginning in October.
www.powhatanva.gov
The survey is relatively simple and only takes a few minutes to complete.
The County main home page provides a link to the survey.

Capitol Management Advisory
 Bye Bye Buy and Hold
  3 firefighters
For the past 39 years in the investment business, Ronald G.Smith, CLU, ChFC
has been a strong believer of the buy and hold philosophy.  However, due to the
horrific market in 2008, he has altered his strategy and is now using
a third party money manager.
AlphaSource uses a top-tier institutional management team with over 45 years
of investment experience and is
committed to providing innovative
solutions for advisors and their clients.
Some key aspects to the program include:
  • The Value of Diversification - Investors can diversify in many ways, including portfolios of assets that combine different asset classes, economic sectors and geographic concentrations.  For many investors, this has traditionally resulted in portfolios containing a mix of stocks, bonds and cash.
  • A Non-Correlated Portfolio: The Key toTrue Diversification - The key to Modern Portfolio Theory was the revelation that the risk of any investment can be reduced and/or performance increased by forming a portfolio of diverse and non-correlated assets.
  • Non-Traditional Investments and Diversification- How do you find
assets that are not correlated with a traditional portfolio of stocks and gonds?
  • Non-traditional investments, including global real estate, managed futures, commodities and long/short products, are options that many sophisticated institutional investors have been using.
  • Integrating Broader Range investments into Your Portfolio
  • How Will Your Portfolio Respond During Times of Market Stress?

Modern Portfolio Theory tells us that holding a well-diversified 'basket' of investments can be one of the best ways for individual investors to reduce risk for a given level of performance.
