St.Francis/St.Emma
Belmead
 St. Francis/ St. Emma is located on the James River in Powhatan County, VA. St. Francis is also referred to as Mount Pleasant or "Rock Castle." It was the site of the high school for girls. St. Emma is also referred to as Belmead and was the site of the school for boys. They are separated by Deep Creek which rises in Appomattox and empties into the James River at this site.
The 2265 acre property is owned by the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament of Bensalem, Pennsylvania, a congregation of Catholic vowed religious women. The Sisters were founded by St. Katharine Drexel in 1891 for the benefit of Native and African American people.

The panel's keynote speaker will be Marc Willson, Retail Industry Consultant, Virginia Small Business Development Center Network, located at the Mason Enterprise Center - School of Public Policy, George Mason University.  
 
The discussion will focus on the changing retail environment, including the effect of retail "big box" strategies. The panelists will examine the effects of "big box competition" on small business, including who survives, how they survive, and the overall economic impact on the entire community.  The discussion will close with questions from the audience.

Powhatan Agri-Entrepreneurship Tour
which will be held
Saturday September 12
(Rain date Sept. 19)
10 AM - 3 PM
 
 This year's tour will feature equine, orchid, wine grape, cattle and hay operations. 
This is a  self-guided tour and will showcase five unique agri-businesses that will be open to the public. Farm operators will be on hand and will make presentations on the hour and the half-hour.
Join us for Lunch on our Tour! 
 The Powhatan County Farm Bureau will offer
 a grilled luncheon of hamburgers, hot dogs
and veggie burgers with sides and a beverage
 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Garlands
 Training Facility, and all proceeds will
 benefit Virginia's Agriculture in the
 Classroom program.
Lunch is $6 for adults
 and $4 for children 6 or younger.
