GREENBACK ALLIANCE PLEDGE
REDUCE waste
Use both sides of paper whenever possible
Send messages and files electronically
Buy recycled paper and other recycled materials
Install water efficient taps and toilets
Compost if applicable
REUSE items if possible
Reuse paper
Check with the schools to see if they can use items before you throw them out (small plastic containers, carpet scraps, wire, etc.)
RECYCLE whatever you can
Know what the county recycles - glass, cardboard, plastic, and aluminum - and where you can take it
Help the schools by taking your aluminum cans to the junior high, your white paper or newspapers to any one of the red dumpsters located on school grounds
ENERGY: Save electricity and use efficient equipment whenever possible
Shut lights off when leaving a room
Use energy efficient light bulbs
Turn off equipment when not in use: printers, phones, computers, microwaves, coffee makers
Adjust your thermostat to maintain a reasonable temperature
GO NON-TOXIC:
Encourage use of chlorine and phosphate-free cleaners and natural based cleaners and methods
REDUCE PACKAGING WASTE:
Encourage reusable cups and bottles
Instead of bottled water, use a water filter
Returnable and reusable packaging is preferred, i.e. rechargeable batteries and printer and toner cartridges
BUY LOCAL/BUY FRESH:
Less energy is consumed when we buy products in our local area
QUANTITY:
Buy in bulk when your funds and needs allow
Practice portion control
SET AN EXAMPLE FOR OTHERS:
Share green resources when possible
Use Virginia Green logo or Powhatan Greenback Alliance logo to highlight your commitment
STRIVE FOR CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT!
