INSURANCE NEWS |

What life insurance firms aren't telling you
Finally, there is some good news for consumers. Although some insurance companies aren't really sharing it, we've been providing the following information to all of our clients at Virginia Asset Management. Beginning Jan. 1, every life insurance company will be making changes to life insurance product portfolios to accommodate new IRS and state mandated requirements for the use of mortality tables. Specifically, all U.S. life insurers will be required to use the 2001 Commissioner's Standard Ordinary Mortality Table instead of the 1980 CSO Mortality table. These mortality tables are used to provide certain contractual guarantees and may impact how much premium a policy owner can pay into a policy. Insurance companies base the expenses and costs of insurance for new life insurance policies in part on the actual mortality or life expectancy history of people. Because of advances in medicine, people are living longer. This may be an opportunity for you to review your policy and determine if you need to update your coverage. In today's economy, it is worth the time to explore potential cost savings where they may arise. Our goal is to make sure people have the right amount of insurance protection at the right place.
