EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S CORNER
Rankin County always has some of the best high school soccer teams in the state. One of the things that fascinates me about soccer is the amount of energy and stamina that is required. One of the key words in the Christian faith is perseverance. Perseverance of the saints is a distinctive doctrine of Baptists. Our local soccer players, who are now in the playoffs, can teach us some things about perseverance. Thankfully, most of us don't have to run up and down a large soccer field, but we are in the marathon called life. How are you persevering?
A great source of encouragement for you and me is that we don't have to depend just on ourselves to persevere; we have the indwelling Holy Spirit strengthening and guiding us. In Hebrews 12: 1-3 we read the following: "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart." NIV
February is the month of love. In addition to showing your love to your sweetheart, show the love of Christ to fellow believers and to those who do not know Christ as Savior. Love is an identifying element of the Christian faith. It's easy to say we are Christians, but Jesus expects us to demonstrate His love to others so that they will truly know that we are His disciples.
In His Service,
Allen H. Stephens

Prison Ministry updates
We have a new ministry opportunity at Walnut Grove Youth Correctional Facility. The Chaplain asked us last night if we knew someone that would be available during the week during regular work hours to come teach a Sunday School class using Lifeway Curriculum. A couple of men or a husband /wife team who are off during work hours or retired would be great.
We are seeing many souls turn to Christ every week. Sunday afternoon we have a Bible Study with a group, and Monday evening we have a full worship service with a different group each week. There are over 1,000 young men between the ages of 12 and 22 and all of them need a life changing eternal experience with Jesus and a deeper understanding of Him.
If you think you would have an interest in leading a Sunday School class during the week, let me know. If we have several that respond, a rotation schedule could be used so no one is over worked.
We continue to see so much spiritual awakening at WGYCF. The place is really changing. The Chaplain is always looking for additional opportunities to help these guys grow in their faith.
Come be a part of an incredible experience and watch what God will do through your efforts.

Nursing Home Ministry
The Nursing Home Ministry continues to be blessed by God. He has added several new people who will be visiting residents and sharing the love of Christ. I am amazed everyday as people come to our team and tell us that God is leading them to serve Him in the Nursing Home Ministry.
We thank Rankin County Baptist Association for loaning us an office in which to begin our journey in Brandon. and Bro. Allen Stephens, Diane Thompson, and Hassel Johns have been wonderful.
In Him,
Billy and Sandra Thomas

Crossroads Counseling
In Daniel 4:27 Nebuchadnezzar was challenged to "show kindness to the poor." Crossroads is helping provide free family counseling for inner-city families through The Net Counseling Center. A donor has offered free counseling space/facility located next door to Mission First. A mission project for your church to assist is the following: (1) Some inside, small remodeling is needed. (2) Subsidize in part $500 a month for utilities (phones, internet, electricity, water, etc.): approximately $500 per month. Looking for a 1-3 year commitment. |

Healing Touch Ministries
HTM continues to have Celebrate Recovery for men and women on Monday and Tuesday nights and our garage sale on Saturdays 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. Starting in January, we will kick off our recycling ministry where we will collect aluminum cans, metal, brass and clothes. There is much more to be done; but, most importantly, there are many more souls to be saved. We ask for your continued support in this difficult but very rewarding ministry. Luke 10:2 Anthony
P.S. Most of you and your friends are likely on Facebook and Twitter. An easy way to keep up with what's happening with HTM is to search on Facebook "Healing Touch Ministry" or follow on Twitter at "HealingTouchMin." These sites are updated weekly. Social media is a great tool for ministries, and they are free.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. If you need to make room for all those Christmas gifts ,HTM is the place to donate. HTM takes furniture, appliances, electronics, clothes, scrap metal ,etc... All proceeds go to the efforts of saving lives. You can call me at 601-624-2125 to make arrangements. We are also going forward with our efforts at Southside Baptist in Jackson, MS to start a women's campus for those needing help with recovery. We had a volunteer training on January 19 at 6:00 pm. at the Baptist Association in Pearl, MS as well. Much prayer is needed. God Bless! Anthony Luke 10:2, Habakkuk 2:2 |
