Greetings!
Happy New Year from the ECO-CELL team! In this first newsletter of 2011, we take a look back at the changes that 2010 brought us. ECO-CELL has new faces, a new website and networking tools, a new logo, and new opportunities for recycling.
We look forward with a sense of great optimism as we begin a new year with our valued partners. We are proud of the work we do everyday to make a difference and improve our world.
In this issue, we publicly recognize our top recycling partners; share some tips from our top recycling program of 2010, the Cincinnati Zoo; and issue a challenge.
Lastly, as we move into an exciting new year, we want to thank all of our partners, advocates, and friends. Together we have developed smart, effective programs to support meaningful causes around the globe.
We are a small company with big ideas - and big challenges. E-waste is piling up all around us, habitats are being devastated, and the mining of conflict minerals continues to bring strife and suffering to some of our most vulnerable populations. Together, we are working to meet these challenges.
We are proud to have such wonderful partners on this journey. Here's to a year of health and peace.
Sincerely, Eric and Lindsey Ronay ECO-CELL |

| How Cincinnati Zoo Answered The Call
| Rhiannon Hoeweler, Senior Project Manager at the Cincinnati Zoo, directs the "Saving Species" program at the Cincinnati Zoo. She generously shares her expertise in this special guest post for ECO-CELL. Full article on the ECO-CELL Blog
Excerpts:
Last fall, the Zoo worked with a local school, Summit Country Day, to incorporate our Eco-Cell initiatives into their service learning program. The results were fast and exciting.
The school and its students collected over 300 phones using little more than word of mouth, generated media interest, and served as a model for the rest of our community. *** The Saving Species campaign has focused on the very specific and focused message of modeling conservation action (e.g. recycling cell phones), while providing the tools to our visitors and the greater community to become active leaders in our goal to become the #1 Zoo in North America recycling phones. ***
The program reaches out to visitors, businesses/organizations, and schools through word of mouth, the Saving Species microsite (where all the necessary tools and information people need to get started can be located), with artwork created by students displayed in local businesses, through help from our marketing/pr department and local news outlets.
The results - we now have over 28 schools and 40 business partners engaged in our Saving Species campaign.

 | New Logo to Reflect New Recyclables
| |
In 2003, we were one of the first companies to enter the cell phone recycling business. Over the past 7 years we have seen many changes in technology, consumer electronics, the environmental movement, and the recycling industry.
Take a look at the logo that has been seen on collection materials at more than 100 zoos and organizations worldwide. It has served us well, but it is... well, a bit dated. Antenna and keypad? How quaint.
We realized that the old logo was outdated when we starting seeing Blackberry, IPhone, Android and other smartphones and handheld devices in our collection bins.
As the technology evolves, so too must the recyclers. So, as we move beyond the simple cell phones that we've been recycling since 2003 (we collect more than phones now. See: What to Collect), we wanted to create a new logo to reflect the connection between technology and nature. We've spent nearly a decade educating people about this connection, and now we have a visual reminder of all we're working to protect.
What do you think of the new logo? Tell us your opinion.
Want to update your recycling bin graphics and printed materials? Just send a note to Brian or download a logo from our gallery of graphics at ECO-CELL Resources.

 | 3000 in 2011. Take the Pledge. | Several of our recycling partners have taken the pledge to collect 3000 phones in 2011. And ECO-CELL is offering a financial incentive to reward this worthy goal.
Several years ago, we developed the "Silverback" Partner program to reward our most productive recyclers. Those who collect more 1000 cell phones become "Silverbacks" and earn extra money for every phone they recycle, regardless of age or condition. The new "3000 in 2011" incentive program establishes a large goal and a large reward. The target: 3000 Phones recycled in the year 2011. For all those who meet the challenge, ECO-CELL will make a charitable contribution to them or the non-profit of their choice.
We know you can do it! Contact Eric for details and to take the pledge!
