January 2010
Dear Conservation Partner:,

2009 was a challenge to say the least. The good news is that it is behind us. The better news is that we are optimistic about 2010. In the last 3 months of 2009, we noticed a rise in prices we are getting for the phones. In turn, we now pay up to $50/phone. Hopefully, this trend will continue throughout 2010.

The most exciting trend for us in 2009, however, was the increased role kids are playing in conservation fundraising.  The ECO-CELL program is a natural fit for children. Kids intuitively know that they can make a difference and their enthusiasm is contagious. Two examples - Mariah, a youg girl from New York collected over 1,200 phones, the proceeds of which she donated to the Dian Fossey Gorilla Foundation International.  And Mac, a young boy from Cincinnati, has successfully energized his school (parents, teachers, staff, and children) as well as local businesses to collect phones and raise money for the conservation efforts of the Cincinnati Zoo.  (See story below.)

So here is to 2010!  I wish each of you the very best in your endeavors. If any of you want to ramp up your collection and need ideas or suggestions, please feel free to contact us by email or by phone at 888-326-3357.  Have a great year and thanks again for your participation. It is everything to us.
Sincerely,

Eric and Lindsey Ronay
CincinnatiCincinnati Zoo and Summit Country Day
Cincinnati schools and businesses are joining the Cincinnati Zoo in their effort to collect cell phones, cell phone batteries and cell phone chargers.

A Summit Country Day student is spearheading a service project in which students in grades 1-4 will learn about the plight of gorillas and will then make posters to encourage individuals to support the ECO-CELL recycling program. The students even made a video to promote the project!

Area businesses, including ThyssenKrupp, Gorilla Glue, Marvin Lewis Community Fund, Park + Vine and Urban Properties, will display posters and support the project.

Check out the video!

Congrats to our Top Zoo Programs for 2009!

Final counts for 2009 are in and we have named our top 10 collectors. As a reward for their commitment to e-waste recycling and for blazing the trail for other collection programs, these "ECO-Blazers" will receive a minimum of $.60/cents regardless of condition. This is a 33% increase over the Silverback rates for recycled phones. From this point forward, ECO-Blazers will be named annually based on the previous year's top 10 collections. ECO-Blazer status is good for one year after designation.

FacebookIf you are interested in getting and sharing ideas about how to raise collection numbers and promote your collection program, join our facebook page.  There, we can communicate with one another, share ideas and basically network.

Also, we want to get to know you and learn about your organizations; we feel we are joined in a common endeavor -- to promote conservation, raise funds and raise awareness of the link between consumerism and how it affects people, animals and the environment.  So, tell us what you care about!
ECO-CELL is the premiere cell phone recycling program for environmentally minded fundraisers. Our passion is to provide our conservation partners with the most profitable, easy to use and environmentally sound cell phone recycling program possible.

We recognize that we are in the midst of an e-waste crisis. That is why we designed a program that encourages organizations to collect all used cell phones and accessories, including batteries.

From the start, we knew this approach would take away from our profits. However, we have always maintained that this endeavor is about a lot more than just collecting the 'profitable' used cell phones. The further we get into this endeavor and the more people we come in contact with, the more we realize just how much more there really is.
