Health and Safety Award for RapidShield

RS AWARD
RapidShield won a National Award from Occupational Health and Safety at the National Safety Council Congress and Expo in Orlando, Florida.

Safety Features of RapidShield
  • various levels of slip resistance
  • LEEDS compliance
  • very low VOCs
  • instant cure of surfaces that can include line striping and safety signs on floor in busy intersections.
Our dealers carrying RapidShield should benefit greatly as we have already had numerous customer leads forwarded to us by the show hosts and RapidShield will be written up in the December issue of Occupational Health and Safety http://ohsonline.com  which will draw more leads .These leads are being passed along to dealers for follow up and will generate new business opportunities in this tough economic climate.
Another Architectural Lunch and Learns week was held in conjunction with our Florida Dealer, American Concrete Coatings. Jim Price and his team have worked extremely hard and have now conducted 8 Lunch and Learn Sessions for Architects. Harry Crum, Sales Engineer indicates that these sessions are meant to introduce our RapidShield product line and its many benefits to Architects so it can be specified on jobs. It is also meant to showcase its ability to be utilized in conjunction with Kemiko Concrete Stains as an "instant cure" protective topcoat that is available in gloss or matte finish. Because of the many places it can be utilized, such as warehouses, manufacturing, retail stores, restaurants, cold storage facilities, decorative concrete entranceways.....it is bringing many new opportunities to our dealers that they may not have traditionally been involved with.

Another Certification Training Session was also held at Suburban Decorative Concrete in Louisville Kentucky. Various contractors attended including several from South Korea. "These 2-day training classes sometimes have an international flavor to them" indicates George McCullough, Global Sales and Marketing Manager. They are time well spent reviewing concrete preparation, RapidShield application/cure, job bids, value proposition, fitness for use,  project management, and sales tools.              RS SUBURBAN DEC CLASS             SUBURBAN FLOOR

I, as well as many of you, have never experienced such a changing year before, Harry states.
I am very excited to see the different flooring market places improving.  I have to say that it has been a pleasure working with our Kemiko and RapidShield dealers through all of this.  Instead of sitting back and waiting for the change, you have forced the change.   Great work to all --- and get ready for a busy upcoming year!

Industrial Coatings Sytems
Epmar is proud to introduce and highlight some of the key moments in the last year that have profited and benefited our current customers.  I would like to highlight one of our specialty topcoats in our KEMIKO Industrial Coatings line. You may ask yourself:
What are the KEMIKO Industrial Coatings Systems?
  • Are they new?
  • How do they work?
  • Are they expensive?
Kemiko Industrial Coatings, formerly known as Sta-Crete, have been around for over 25 years. We have extensive case history, ranging from residential homes to commercial and retail floors, as well as, industrial high build trowel down systems. Our product line is typically two component epoxy, polyurethane and polyaspartic's. The product line is very well priced because we make all of our products in house thus keeping your cost down.
My product highlight will be Kemiko SS3300 - 100% solids clear Polyaspartic Coating System. This product is a two component, fast drying, high build, ultra violet stable, clear top coat. Kemiko SS3300 can be applied direct to concrete or as a top coat for our epoxy's or polyurethane's. Kemiko SS3300 has excellent scratch resistance, great for hot tires and will provide long term, high gloss retention. Common uses are: garage floors, high traffic walkways, kitchen and exterior driveways and patios.
Epmar also introduced KEMIKO/RapidShield Ultra Violet Cure. This product is a single component 100% solids modified epoxy that is cured by using an Ultra Violet Cure Machine. This product is geared for the job that requires immediate cure and move in time or turn over time that is critical!  Common uses: automotive processing plants, industrial and manufacturing facilities and bottling or packaging warehouses.
In the last two months, we have successfully introduced RapidShield Training and Certification Programs at our California plant. We have had two international guests attend our two day certification program. Our first certification went to Corrosion Controlada out of Guadalajara. They have bid on two jobs and are waiting for the contracts. The second was Doojong from South Korea.  L and D Enterprises and Elite Garage Floors out of Arizona were the first local contractor and distributor to attend the class. Attendees were Jeff Blythe from L and D and Ron Stewart from Elite. Thanks to Ron's efforts we were able to get a small demo at Coca-Cola in Glendale, Az. Their quality work will lead to larger contracts in 2010.

Shared insights from our KEMIKO Dealers....

Mark Berridge/Burbank Paint/California:
"We deal with many industrial corporations."  Mark mentions that employees of a local large paint company know the value of our Kemiko Industrial Products, especially the SS1600, which they used on their warehouse floors.  Their president wonders why they are not using their own paint products ??
Mark states that what works best for him is - word of mouth.  "We have a lot of repeat business."  He likes our new Sell Sheets - saying he will use them as advertising material for his customers.

Bob Dill/Stampcrete of San Antonio/Texas:
Bob happily states that his sales are up.  (What is his secret??)  He states that it is mostly due to the training and investment he made learning about our Kemiko Industrial Coatings.  He took the time to learn the products, especially the SS1600 and SS2700, making samples and having the various products on his showroom floor for his customers to view.

Michelle Malcolm
Kemiko Concrete Stain Products/Georgia

"... with the market being what it is, I can actually tell you that more and more residential consumers are doing their own installations. Our web site has been our biggest source of leads.  We participate in the Spring and Fall Home Shows.  Our other sources are simply word of mouth."  Michelle states that they are especially excited about the new Easy Shine Mop on Floor wax and the Kemiko(Sta Crete) SS3700 epoxy.  "All of my contractors are having excellent results with both of these products.  We are certainly hoping for a resurgence of remodels and new construction in the year 2010 here in the Metro Atlanta area."

Ryan Andrews/Kinnunen Sales/Oklahoma:
Ryan says that his commercial business has declined, but there has been a big upswing in his residential sales. "More homeowners are -- Doing It Themselves," he states. They are spending more money on home renovations using the Kemiko stain.  His company has spent time and effort targeting this market.

Going forward in 2010

2009 has proven to be one of the most challenging economic periods in history. We, as manufacturers, dealers, contractors, applicators and homeowners have found ourselves forced to be not only prudent but also extremely creative. As we look to 2010, one thing is for sure, we have a different business sense due to the lessons learned and rocky road we have traveled together in 2009. Because of this road, we will all be better prepared for what lies ahead.

There is no doubt our resilience and commitment will carry us into a prosperous 2010. Kemiko will launch new products in both the Decorative and Industrial lines. 2010 looks bright with many new construction projects being approved and new technologies like the RapidShield, instant UV cured coating which was named "Most Innovative Product of the Year" at the 2009 World of Concrete.

Kemiko looks forward to working closely and receiving input from our dealers and contractors in the upcoming year. Please visit us at kemiko.com, epmar.comrapidshield.com and join us on FACEBOOK under KEMIKO Decorative and Industrial Coatings.

This corner is designed to help with frequently asked questions on Kemiko Products giving you preventative measures, and suggestions.

PRODUCT: Stone Tone Sealer II

QUESTION:  How do I prevent lap lines with my sealer?

CAUSE: Lap lines are created by rolling over sealer that has already started to dry.

PREVENTION:
Always follow manufacturer's instructions on application - note drying time on sealer tech bulletin.
When applying the sealer by roller, maintain a "wet edge" and overlap your passes by 2 inches. The recommended application of the acrylic sealer is by airless sprayer.  By spraying, one can eliminate the chance of lap lines and it allows for a more consistent coated surface.
If application must be by roller, choose a ¼" lambs wool roller cover. This will help control the volume of sealer being applied to the surface.  Multiple thin coats are better than 1 or 2 thick coats.  This will help in the set up of the material, especially in areas of the country that experience high humidity and high temperatures.
Refrain from rolling up and down.  Instead roll in a "V" or "W" pattern still maintaining a "wet edge". When using a roller, the sealer is pushed forward and this causes material to be pushed to the side.  This causes the sealer to be applied to the floor in various thicknesses.  If you happen to miss a spot and notice it later, do not try to spot fix.  You will need to cover with the next coat.

FIX:
This can usually be done by applying another thin coat. Lap lines can also be buffed out using a white floor buffing pad and recoating the entire floor.
