Happy Holidays! |
Greetings!
Time has certainly flown by the first part of our school year for Head Start of Greater Dallas' children, families, and staff. Our centers have seen the growth and development of more than 4,400 preschool-age children. A special thanks to each of you for your continued support of our organization and the work we do with our families throughout the year.
We continue to develop new partnerships and engage more people in our mission to help children be successful in school and in life and foster self-reliant families. Through these partnerships, our centers have increased opportunities for the children to learn about the world around them, added value to our supporters and developed a greater connection to the community where they live and work. Read more about some of these partnerships below.
I want to personally thank our Board of Directors for their work with our agency; the coat drive spearheaded by you has helped our children immensely. Your hard work and dedication along with the Policy Council to ensure that the agency is programmatic and fiscally sound is most reassuring to the community.
End of the year online giving is also welcomed, please visit our web site to find out how or you can send your gift to our Central Office, 3954 Gannon Lane, Dallas, TX 75229 Attn: Joan Cox.
In the joy of the season,
Wanda J. Smith
Chief Executive Officer

| Crossfit Strong Owners, Gale and Ashley Yocom | Strong Body, Strong Mind, Strong Heart
Gale and Ashley Yocom, owners of Crossfit Strong in Dallas, live out the spirit of giving through their business. With more than 200 members, the couple has seen the way exercise and fitness can change people, not only physically, but mentally as well.
"We saw that the more confident individuals became with themselves physically, the more emotionally strong they became as well," Coach Ashley said.
With the holiday season approaching, Ashley and Gale decided the next step was to incorporate activities in their center around giving back. They chose Head Start of Greater Dallas' Adopt-a-Family program because of their love for education and the difference they could make for an entire family. The members, trainers and center adopted all 79 children from the Science Place II Center and will present the gifts to the families on Friday, December 17th.

DART Hosts 6th Christmas Lunch for Children from Roseland Homes Head Start
December 2010 marks the sixth anniversary of the South Oak Cliff Division of DART and the Roseland Homes Head Start Center holiday partnership. Started in 2005 under the leadership of Robert Reeves, Senior Manager of the South Oak Cliff Bus Operations, the program consists of a full lunch for the children and staff of the Roseland Homes center as well as Christmas carols, Santa and educational toys and gifts for each child. The event has been hosted annually at the South Oak Cliff DART headquarters. Employees raise funds for the catered lunch and shop for toys for the 80 children who attend.

The DART team has become extremely involved in the project and enjoys seeing the looks on the children's faces when they receive their gifts and sing the carols. "When we reach out to help others, it helps us to realize how blessed we are," Mr. Reeves said.
Thank you DART for the work you continue to do in our community! |
