"A successful United Way campaign is very important to the quality of life in Central Arkansas." says United Way president John Nazzaro. "Local health and human service agencies, such as the Red Cross, Boys and Girls Clubs and the Arkansas Foodbank Network, rely on United Way funds to carry out their missions. Last year, United Way raised over $4.4 million to help people with disabilities, low-income seniors, disadvantaged youth, families in crisis, survirors of domestic violence and many others. We hope to raise even more in this year's campaign."

Agency Spotlight: Ronald McDonald House |
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Arkansas is a new agency of the Heart of Arkansas United Way. They operate two primary programs, the Ronald McDonald House and the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile, both of which are dedicated to the health and well-being of children and families. The Ronald McDonald House is a 26-bedroom home away from home that provides housing and services to families who have a child receiving treatment at an area hospital, particularly Arkansas Children's Hospital. In addition to a place to stay, the Ronald McDonald House provides dinner almost every night, laundry facilities and many supplies. Studies show that children heal better and faster when they have family close by. Thus, the House is able to give a family the greatest gift of all-time with their child. The Ronald McDonald House of Arkansas has been serving children and families in their time of need for 30 years. Since opening its doors in 1980, more than 20,000 families have stayed at the House. Guests come from almost every county in the state, as well as many other states and countries. The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile is a 40-foot, state-of-the-art mobile dental unit that provides full service dental care and education to children who would not otherwise have access to this type of care and information. Currently, the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile travels to elementary schools in seven Arkansas counties: Faulkner, Grant, Jefferson, Lonoke, Perry, Pulaski, and Saline. Since the program's inception, more than 60% of the children receiving treatment had never before seen a dentist. Made possible by a partnership between Ronald McDonald House Charities, Arkansas Children's Hospital and Delta Dental of Arkansas, the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile impacts the lives of approximately 1,000 children annually.
