rest as self-love![]()
This week I had to consciously slow down. I mean lounge around; nap for hours; watch DVDs; not exercise; not go out-and-about; not socialize; be quiet; REST.
There's so much creative energy on the planet right now and even though it is natural to want to ride those waves as hard and as long as possible, it is crucial to give our bodies the rest they need to assimilate all the energetic shifts we're experiencing. I don't know about you, but I actually forget to slow down. I want to create/express/output as quickly and as much as is humanly possible. If I don't pace myself, however, it's inevitable: I'll hit a wall and be laid out unnecessarily for way too long. And that's not an option. I know that if I take a little breather now, it allows me to maintain a healthy, consistent momentum. Sometimes I play mind games with myself as an incentive to do what I'd rather not do (like slow down). When I think about rest as a self-loving act, that helps me soften and gives me permission to slow down and even STOP, if necessary. Now, I'm off to take yet another rejuvenating nap. See you in the dream state. |

a productivity paradox![]()
How is it possible that by slowing down, productivity can actually increase?
I know, it doesn't make sense. But from experience, taking a break from tasking is a proven technique to even greater achievement. I think it comes down to an inherent magic of inspired action vs. busy, doing action. Somehow we feel it's best to keep going, regardless of fatigue, frustration or lack of inspiration. We press on. We focus on getting yet one more thing accomplished. We feel that by completing one more task, we are making progress. In fact, quite the opposite may be true. I understand: taking an objectivity break is often the last thing driven business owners want to do with a long to-do list that looms. However, when you really think about it, much less time and precious energy resources are required when we create (work) from well-rested inspiration instead of force. Although it seems that resting is counter to accomplishing, a year of testing this theory gave me a unique perspective. Bringing our full, whole, rested, happy selves to our evolutionary contributions is vital. Otherwise, we're just busy doing. Spend more time being and you'll find that when you do focus on creating as it relates to work, you are fresh and that expression takes much effort. How does that happen? I dunno. I just know it works. So, cheers to more walks, bike rides, sitting in silence, being in nature, and quiet time as the keys to greater business accomplishment. |
