One never knows the impact of seeds planted
nor when they might bear fruit. Such is the
case with a client who reappeared in my
business life this week.
We became acquainted more than a year ago when she asked for a copywriting proposal. That project never materialized, but obviously I left a positive impression. Not hearing from her since then, this week she left a voicemail wanting to secure services. I returned her call and with a few emails between us, the deal was done and her project was added to my copywriting calendar. It was exciting to hear about the growth of my new client's business over the past year. She is making final preparations for selling to Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Central Market, Sephora, Ulta 3 and a plethora of other stores with much opportunity ahead. Her product line is three versatile products in two luscious scents. Her marketing materials are sophisticated and high-end. Manufacture of the products were sourced out to a industry leader with superior results. The labels are top-quality. Girlfriend, good for you. What a difference a year can make! I know you've done your hard work and it is going to pay off soon... BIG TIME! Back to planting seeds When you send a client proposal, (it's easier said than done, but) don't be attached to when the job might actually materialize. I may be hours, weeks, or years. Just leave a positive impression every time and anticipate them contacting you when it is most perfect for all parties. People remember how they felt in their interactions with you. They will return if you: 1. inspire them 2. treat them as more than additional income, and 3. genuinely desire to increase their success in business It seems to be a magical combination. Try it! When you know you've done all you can to cultivate a powerful connection, move on. The timing is out of your hands anyway, so don't sweat it. You never know when and how that seed will grow into a monster of a plant/project, but in the mean time your efforts are best focused on planting even more seeds. |

Shelf Help.
I heard this term recently and thought it was funny. Most of us have programs on our book shelves we once thought were the missing links to our business success. They weren't. Most times they just collect dust. (Ask me how I know!?) When you think the next conference, coach, product, tool or service is "it" you have just given away your power. In actuality, your business is missing nothing. Thinking it is leaves you at a colossal disadvantage and blinds you to the simple truth: is not the next one anything, but a savvy and simple application of the many tools available No one business tool - blog, forum, updated Web site, Facebook presence, more funds, better packaging, a more sophisticated business plan, new marketing materials, etc. - is the end-all, be-all. Avoid this common entrepreneurial mindset trap. Stop your search for "it" and slowly implement a multi-faceted approach to a thriving business. It leaves you feeling much less vulnerable than having all your proverbial eggs in one proverbial basket. That has desperation written all over it and your customers and clients will sense it a mile away! Begin today by adding one new angle per month. This is easy to implement without being overwhelming. If you need more time, take it, but establish a plan for implementation so you stay relatively on-course. By the way, is your marketing plan for 2009 completed? Are you working on it? |

![]() There is just no way it's September. No *%#(@^ way! It seems everyone is saying how quickly time is passing. I know. It's happening in my world, too. Days have become a blur, weeks the same. Is it just me or are you, too, blown away at seeing holiday dcor in the stores? Yikes. Often I have to make concerted efforts to simply enjoy everyday moments. This seemed easier before. Yet bringing a slower-paced consciousness and deliberateness to my everyday life helps me accomplish this. If time is going to pass this quickly, even that I can manipulate and master to my advantage. I enjoy the simple aspects of life - a conversation, unexpectedly seeing an acquaintance, running errands, planning a trip - and want to maximize every moment. That requires heightened awareness. Where is your focus and what do you want to expand for more life fulfillment? In Sisterhood, Light & Love, ![]()
