There are many paths to success... this one emphasizes service vs. perfection ![]()
I had a conversation with a
prospective client I'll never forget.
This article is the result of the impact it
had on me.
My client came to me wanting a sales letter for an upcoming event. I went to her Web site to grasp her marketing approach and become familiar with her products and services. What I found actually surprised me; many spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors. I told her after the initial project was finished, I'd be happy to review her Web site and make recommendations for improvement. She was kind and polite in her response, which was basically, she had succeeded to this point with the existing content and was happy with it as-is. She said she'd have her assistant take a look and thanked me for my attention to detail. A few more discussions revealed that she's been referred to by marketing experts as an accidental success story! And -- get this -- she has a list of over 10,000 people who love her, her products, and the less-than-proof-perfect, authentic method of giving them opportunities to purchase from her. She's all about inspiring them, not impressing them. You can now understand why it's taken me awhile to assimilate this. I speak often about paying attention to the details because I think not doing so sends out a less-than-professional message. And yet doing just the opposite is actually working for my client! Why? We work so hard to do what's right based on what works for the experts. Business consultants, coaches and colleagues give us suggestions for success. Often when we try to apply the principles to our business, they flop! Maybe it's because we're more focused on applying what has worked for others instead of listening to the subtle indicators of our own, best path. THAT'S what my client is doing. Thanks to her, I have a fresh perspective on success. Although I still recommend that every entrepreneur does his/her very best to eliminate blatant errors in marketing materials, there's obviously another component that works to ensure a thriving business; a genuine desire to enrich the lives of others. At least for my client, this seems to overshadow the perceived impact of spelling, punctuation and grammar errors! Go figure. |

The Value of Music![]() I enjoy music, but have never considered myself to be an avid music-lover... you know someone who cannot live or work without it. I don't play an instrument, don't read music and don't own an iPod, but Pandora/font> has changed my life. I have it on most of the time now while I'm working and I enjoy it immensely. The concept is innovative and the service is FR*EE. Who doesn't love that!? Pandora is a new, more personalized kind of radio -- where the stations only play music you like. Just indicate your favorite songs or artists and they create a station that explores just that part of the music universe. Pandora is based on the Music Genome Project/font>, which began in 2000 and is the most thorough analysis of popular music ever undertaken. You can listen to your Pandora stations on the web, at home or on the go. Check it out!/font> In Sisterhood, Light & Love, ![]()
