Your Tribe, Your Terms![]() Call it a tribe. Call it a family. Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one. Jane Howard Previously I shared with you the essential components and benefits of a tribe and how to maximize the benefits. This second and final article on the subject reveals ways to establish and maintain your tribe so the benefits enrich and enhance your life for as long as the dynamic is in your highest interest. How to establish a tribe of your own (on your terms) As a rule, I strictly adhere to the guideline of not taking anything personally. People with whom we share our lives are on their own individual and unique paths and are going to think, do and say what is in alignment with their understanding of their experience. However, as relates to building a tribe that is best-suited for you, Make it personal... very personal. This is your opportunity to attract people who will become an important part of your life, so choose wisely! Commit to having your tribe on your terms. Here's how: 1. Make a list of the specifications, qualities and characteristics important to you; e.g. female, entrepreneur, stay-at-home mom. 2. Using all your resources including "coincidences," personal and professional affiliations like church or trade organization memberships, begin the process of telling people what you're looking for and if they know anyone who might be interested. 3. Conduct an informal interview via telephone or in person. This allows you to communicate your expectations of all group members. 4. Allowing your intuition to guide you, make a final choice of 2-6 participants with whom you have the best rapport. This isn't an attempt to make anyone feel left out of the popular clique. After all, we're hardly in high school. This is about making the best choices to propel you in all areas of your life. And that requires a commitment to the process of finding the perfect players. However, it's important to be open, and communicate clearly and honestly. Personal and professional comradery Support in forward thinking/trendsetting Rapid results for goal achievement Business propulsion Brainstorming opportunities Complementary, objective perspectives Exposure to an interesting variety of personalities, ideas, and energy How to maintain the closeness of your tribe 1. Think of giving first. 2. Be respectful of the time of others -- limit email and telephone inquiries to those of the most importance. 3. When possible, make yourself immediately available when others need your help - this experience makes a lasting impression because people make the link to you helping when they need you most. 4. Meet on a frequent basis (weekly is perfect). 5. Pre-plan meetings at least 3 months in advance. As you can see, establishing and maintaining tribal relationships is personally and professionally advantageous. Connections may last days, months or years based on what each person needs, but the longer these relationships are fostered, the stronger the dynamic. I highly suggest forming a tribe of your own to propel your business, remain grounded and aligned, and reap all the benefits of concentrated connectedness. |

Even yogurt sells better with emotion-evoking copy![]()
While picking up groceries recently, I came
across a line of gourmet yogurt. I made the
purchase exclusively due to the captivating
copywriting on the package... and I don't even
particularly like yogurt! Now THAT'S
impressive and impactful copy.
The brand is Rachel's and the packaging contains verbage including:
They're tapping into the highly-impactful method of making you feel a certain way. Once they effectively do that, the product is as good as sold. And in this case, it worked! While only pennies more expensive than many other brands, I was also impressed with the flavor options. Instead of describing only the ingredients (banana, pear, lemon) the names conveyed much more. The two items I purchased were Vitality (pomegranate acai) and Glow (berry jasmine). The lesson here is applicable to any product or service. Tell people outright -- or subtly convey -- how they will feel by purchasing your offerings. This insider tip is widely known as an effective method of accessing emotions and securing the sale. |

Companionship on life's journey![]()
My flight from San Jose to Minneapolis was
relatively uneventful... that is, except for
my seatmate.
A beautiful woman from Pakistan was returning home after a 3 month visit to the United States. She commented on my nose piercing and our conversation didn't stop until we landed. It was a delightful conversation spanning the topics of arranged marriage, Pakistani customs, traditional women's roles, children, the global impact of American media, loving people as they are, and the value of making direct eye contact. Granted it was no trivial exchange, but when we meet others on the path, what's there to do but dig in? In Sisterhood, Light & Love, ![]()
