Greetings!

It's hard to believe summer is coming to an end. What's even harder to believe is that the year is more than half way over as TIME Magazine released its yearly list of the Top 50 websites.  The end of the summer may also mean the end of the road for text messaging and HP's TouchPad. On a more positive note, Google has acquired Motorola Mobile, which will go down in history as Google's largest acquisition thus far.  In this month's news round-up, we take a quick look at marketing and technology news we think you could use. Is Text Messaging Dead?    

 

The increase in smartphone sales in the past couple of years has seemed to be somewhat positive for cell phone companies. Data plan sales have skyrocketed, but  the increased use of data could mean less text messaging.

What's the reason? Many smartphone applications offer free text messaging services causing consumers to drop or lower the texting plans.

Google Makes Its Largest Acquisition  

 

With Apple being one of Google's largest competitors and the upcoming release of the Apple iPhone 5 on the horizon, Google had to make a move to strengthen its mobile business.  

 

On August 15, 2011, Google announced that it would acquire Motorola Mobility Holdings for $12.5 billion. This offer will go down in Google history as its greatest acquisition thus far.

 Is the iPad the One and Only Tablet? 

      

Before Apple released the iPad in early spring of 2010, skeptics predicted that consumers would have no need for tablets. With miliions of iPads sold within weeks of the release date, skeptics realized there is a tablet market.

Is the tablet market flocking only to Apple? With only 49 days of existence, HP announced that it would no longer be manufacturing its TouchPad tablet.
