Greetings!

July has been all about record breaking heat and very big announcements by some top tech companies. In an effort to lure consumers into the online movie streaming world, Netflix recently raised its prices on both its streaming and DVD services. The hike in prices caused irate consumers to lash out via negative Facebook and Twitter comments. Meanwhile, the U.S. Postal Service announced that it will close over 3,000 post offices by the end of September. Google+ has gotten off to a great start,  but has been giving some users the boot.  And Google+ is not the only one getting rid of people. Research in Motion (RIM), the manufacturer of Blackberry�, plans on cutting 2,000 employees due to a 12% drop in quarterly revenue.  In this month's news round-up, we take a quick look at marketing and technology news we think you could use. Is Social Media Encouraging Negative PR?    

 

Recently, Netflix, the wildly successful DVD delivery and streaming company, announced that it was raising its prices. Not only did Netflix have to call in extra customer service reps to handle angry callers, it also had to deal with the negative comments that were being posted on the company's Facebook and Twitter pages.

When customers call or email to complain, they simply vent their anger and go on with their lives. When over 79,000 negative Facebook comments are posted, it can turn into a PR disaster.

The U.S. Postal Service's fiscal year ends September 30th of this year. In order to pay its debts by then, the U.S. Postal Service has announced that it is closing 3,653 post offices across all 50 states.

Bye Bye Blackberry�?

      

Back in its hay-day, Blackberry was the smart phone to have when it came to emailing and using the internet. With the iPhone and Android phones introduced over the last few years, the reliable Blackberry has lost its luster.

   

On June 25, 2011, Research in Motion, the maker of Blackberry, announced that it was cutting 2,000 jobs or 11% of its work force. What does this mean for Blackberry?
