Notes from a 21st Century "Mad" Man

Larry's new blog launched with a flurry of posts this month. The post regarding marketing in a down economy frames our corporate philosophy regarding that topic. Also generating interest this month was Larry's post on the proposed stimulus package and what we could all do with a hypothetical check for $10,000.  Visit the blog and feel free to comment. We welcome
your input!

Instant Offense: Get a 3-pointer
Every Time with a Solid PR Program
It used to be that you would send out a news release and wait for key trade magazines to "pick it up." When they did, you got leads for an economical investment. The idea is the same today, but now you get a 3-pointer. Yes, you may still get your release published in a trade journal generating some leads. But now, in addition, that same journal will publish it on their website generating additional views of yobasketballur news. Now, to make it a 3-pointer, you get the added value of having these online releases working for you to provide incoming links back to your site as people click on the news item and link back to your website. As you may have heard, incoming links has become a key ingredient in determining your Page Rank on Google and other search engines. Now that's a high percentage 3-pointer guaranteed to win the game.

Changing the Game Plan
Let's say your favorite team is down by plenty at half time. Don't you assume that the coach is drawing up a change in strategy to respond to what is happening in the game? We've all seen games where the team comes out in the second half just as flat as they were in the first half and get blown out.

Then, there are the teams that come out with a whole new plan and attack the other team with everything they've got and come back to win the game.

Well, if things aren't going as well as you would like in your business right now, think of it as half time. It's time to huddle up and come out with a new game plan. A large machinery manufacturer we do business with is going to shift from concentrating solely on new machine orders and look for retrofit business that might be more in keeping with today's limited budgets. Another client is toying with the idea of selling their products direct through a new e-commerce site rather than through distribution as they have done in the past. These are brand new ideas based on a new game plan. Once you adjust your plan, you need to tell people that you are doing things differently.

Is it time for you to have a heart to heart with your team and come out with a new game plan? We can help. Maybe it's an e-blast or a postcard mailer to your in-house database.

Let us discuss some new ideas for your team. Half time is almost over. It's time to get your game face on.
