RA News
Thank you to our RAs who volunteered for our first full uniform football game. AVHS Marching Band and Color Guard are fortunate to have a team of volunteers that can set up chairs, hand out gauntlets, snip glove finger tips, fix hair, shine shoes, stick in plumes and water a very BIG band like pros! Still want to volunteer as an RA? I know this looks like way too much fun to miss! Check out out our other articles for opportunities to help out! Questions?Contact Jody Harcourt

Spirit wear
The band is working hard to be ready for the first competition on the 13th. Thanks to all the parents who have been getting their part ready by buying spirit wear. The sea of purple will be impressive this year, we should see a lot of those trendy scarves in the stands that look great with the purple jacket. If you have not gotten your spirit wear yet we have some items left; Medium and Large shirts, XL and Large Jackets and a few scarves. Please contact Kim Page to get your purple going or if you ordered spirit wear and have not yet picked it up.

First competition right around the corner!
The itinerary for the 10/13 competition at Diablo Valley College will be posted on the music website for your information. The only information not available at the time of publication were ticket prices for spectators. Tickets are typically between $10-15/adult for a marching band show. Additional information may be available at www.westernbands.org. Here you can also find scores and recaps from all marching band shows in our circuit from around the state! A reminder on Saturday's schedule Practice is from 12-8 due to the SAT being held on our campus. Got paper? Got tape? If you can spare a ream of paper to donate to the band room for copying music and drill, please send in with your student. Standard 8.5"x11" white copy paper is just fine. We are also looking for rolls of blue painters tape. Any width is fine. If you have any around the house from an old paint project or if you can pick up a roll or 2 at the store, the tape is used to mark the field for drill rehearsal each practice. Thanks. Go Dons! Responsible Adult Volunteers Needed in October
There are lots of opportunities to help out as an RA in October! The Marching Dons will be performing at two varsity football games -- October 12th against De La Salle and October 19th against Granada High for the Homecoming Game. Our first competition on October 13th will be at Diablo Valley College and on October 27th we will be performing in the Foothill Band Competition right here in Pleasanton. For football games RAs will be assisting the Marching Band and Color Guard during warm-up, uniform prep, during the football game and half time show as well post game. We'll be setting up 200+ chairs on the field, filling large water jugs, handing out gauntlets, putting plumes in shakos, watering the band, putting hair up into shakos, shining shoes giving the band and guard a snack after their performance, replacing all chairs and supplies to the band and cart room. For competitions we'll be doing all this as well as traveling with the band on buses to and from the competition. To travel with the band you MUST be cleared as a volunteer through Pleasanton Unified School District. Find a PUSD volunteer form at amadormusic.org, fill it out and deliver it to Martha Acebedo the AVHS office.
PLEASE NOTE: WANT TO HELP OUT BUT YOU DON'T WANT TO RIDE THE BUS OR ALL THE BUS SPOTS ARE TAKEN. WE ALWAYS NEED EXTRA HANDS AT THE EVENT...DRIVE IN THE COMFORT OF YOUR OWN VEHICLE AND MEET US THERE TO HELP. EMAIL JODY HARCOURT IF THIS IS YOUR PREFERENCE. You need absolutely no experience, we train on the job!

Raley's
Raley's is introducing a new electronic scrip program and discontinuing the Quality of Life at the end of this year.
Here is how it work:
- First, you'll need to be a member of the Something Extra rewards program at www.raleys.com.
- Click on the green "Start Here".
- Once you have an account, sign into your Something Extra account on the right side of the screen.
- Click the green "Get Started" button.
- Select Amador Friends of Music and designate a scrip percentage.
With the Quality of Life program I was able to see the breakdown of each supporter's activity for each month, which was reflected on your donation statement quarterly. However with the Something extra program, I will only see the lump donation sum to Amador Friends of Music, no breakdown. In order to have Raley's donations reflected on your donation statement, it will be the parents' responsibility to send me a copy of your quarterly statement. Otherwise your donation will go entirely to Amador Friends of Music. If you have any questions, email Doris Lem.

Uniform Handoff!
With uniform inspections completed, the task of outfitting the marching band has now been handed over to the RA's for the remainder of the marching season. A big Thank You to the uniform fitting volunteers, the uniform inspection volunteers (Janice Camillucci, Lisa Amezcua, and Barb Kennedy) and to our wonderful seamstresses, Vicki Grant and Morgan Mitchell!!! Last Friday, the uniform inspection volunteers switched a couple of jackets and adjusted a few pairs of pants before the band's debut at the football game...and didn't the band look awesome!
Feel free to contact me with any questions during marching season. You'll hear from me again toward the end of the year for information about turning in the jackets and pants.
Here's to a great marching season! GO DONS!!!
