1. Stop by Gene's Fine Foods in to get your new Community Card and add it to your existing eScrip account at www.eScrip.com.

2. Fill out the registration form in the store. Amador Valley HS Friends of Music is not preprinted on the form.  Please check the "Other" box and write down Amador Valley HS Friends of Music as your supporting school.  By providing a phone number, you will be able to use it when checking out if you don't have your card, similar to the Safeway card.

If you have any questions, email Doris Lem.
Every Tuesday - Bring your friends!

YES! The Tuesday Night Food Trucks will continue through November (weather permitting).  No reason to cook on Tuesday nights....come on over, grab a bite and then watch the band students perform.

Calling all Senior Parents!

Every year, at the end of marching band season, during the WBA Championships weekend, our senior students are recognized for their contributions to the band. A send off luncheon is held in their honor which senior parents host, and we celebrate our students for their commitment to the band. Please help us plan this event by contacting the Butlers to find out what you can do to help us celebrate your graduating senior.

Snacks are a hit!

  cookies 10

As you can see all of the students are lovin' those yummies that you bring on Tuesday nights. Thank you parents! Keep them coming. Please do not send snacks that contain any form of peanuts.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me Allison Cox.

Thanks Again!

A reminder Due to the SAT being administered on the AVHS campus on October 6, our rehearsal runs from 12-8.  If your child is taking the SAT you do NOT need to send a pre-excuse form or an email.  I will simply take a show of hands in class prior to 10/6.  Thanks!

First competition right around the corner!  Hard to believe, but we are a couple of short weeks away from our first competition on October 13 at Diablo Valley College.  More information will be coming as soon as the competition schedule is completed by the show sponsor.  In the mean time, come to practices to cheer on the band. The show is taking shape quickly (and you can find out where your child is at on the field!)

Also, a reminder that all band students must be present at band practices the day of a competition.  Please make sure there are no conflicts with other activities on band competition days.  Our practices are shorter on competition days (typically 3-4 hours) with a break mid-day and a report time in the late afternoon/early evening to load the buses and go to the competition site.  More details to follow.

Go Dons!

Director of Bands
Responsible Adult Volunteers Needed in October

There are lots of opportunities to help out as an RA in October! The Marching Dons will be performing at two varsity football games -- October 12th against De La Salle and October 19th against Granada High for the Homecoming Game.  Our first competition on October 13th will be at Diablo Valley College and on October 27th we will be performing in the Foothill Band Competition right here in Pleasanton.

For football games RAs will be assisting the Marching Band and Color Guard during warm-up, uniform prep, during the football game and half time show as well post game. We'll be setting up 200+ chairs on the field, filling large water jugs, handing out gauntlets, putting plumes in shakos, watering the band, putting hair up into shakos, shining shoes giving the band and guard a snack after their performance, replacing all chairs and supplies to the band and cart room.

For competitions we'll be doing all this as well as traveling with the band on buses to and from the competition. To travel with the band you MUST be cleared as a volunteer through Pleasanton Unified School District.

You need absolutely no experience, we train on the job!

Volunteer with the Road Warriors!!

road warriors2 Still looking for an opportunity to support the band?  Consider joining the Road Warriors.  Our primary role is to move band equipment to and from competitions and help the Pit (or front ensemble) students move their equipment on and off the field at competitions and home football games.  No heavy lifting is required and scheduling is flexible.  If you aren't interested in helping at competitions we could still use your help with tasks such as maintaining or cleaning equipment.  Being a Road Warrior is fun!  Virtually all Road Warriors return multiple years but we do need to replace those whose students have graduated.  Please contact Rich McManus, for more information.
Responsible Adult PUSD Clearance

RA (aka Responsible Adult) is the term used for Parent Volunteers who coordinate logistics, supplies and provide chaperoning duties for the Amador music ensembles, and primarily the Marching Band and Color Guard. If you are planning to volunteer as a RA this season and have not yet handed in a PUSD clearance form please download one HERE. Fill it out give it to your student to give to Mr. Grantham, he will put it in the RED RA BOX in his office and I will pick it up and hand it into the office for you. YOU MUST BE PUSD CLEARED TO TRAVEL ON BUSES WITH THE BAND.

If you are thinking that you would like to supervise students at hotels for over night trips you must receive fingerprint clearance with the PUSD at a cost of $75.00. Once you receive this level of clearance you will never have to fill out a PUSD volunteer form again, good for many years to come! If you want to receive this level of clearance please contact jodyharcourt@comcast.net and I will set it up for you.

I would like to have an accurate list of current PUSD fingerprint cleared volunteers since it is not required to renew their clearance each year so.... if you are a PUSD employee or already have fingerprint clearance through Pleasanton Unified School District please email Jody Harcourt and write "Fingerprint Cleared Through PUSD" in the subject line.

Arizona Update!

fiesta logo The Marching Band and Colorguard will be traveling to Arizona on December 26th, returning on January 1st to participate in the Fiesta Bowl Band Competition and Parade. This is an exciting opportunity for the kids to compete with schools from around the country. Please plan on attending the AFM general meeting scheduled for October 15th at 7:00 where we will present details of the trip and answer any questions.

Fundraising for the trip will continue throughout the fall. Please read the newsletter and monitor the web site for opportunities to help out. In addition, donation statements for both the Arizona trip and the fall program will be emailed out periodically. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. We urge those who have not donated and are able to do so to mail a check soon. This trip and the continued financial strength of the program would not be possible without the financial support of our parents.

Questions or any ideas can be directed to Ellen Pensky or Brian Cavanaugh.

Registration Recognition

Many thanks to this year's Walk-in Band Registration team whose efforts made the registration process run smoothly and efficiently. Much gratitude goes to Brian Cavanaugh, Terrie Bovaird and Marcia Ikeda who offered me their assistance again and again. To Jon Grantham and the new board members whose cooperation and quick turn-around were necessary in setting up the website, you have my strong appreciation. Lastly, kudos go to the web site proofreaders, the road warriors who helped with set-up, and the parents who cheerfully worked the tables.
