Looking for some helping hands! With our first competition less than one month away, our awesome Road Warrior crew is looking for additional dad's and mom's who would enjoy helping with logistics and moving gear at performances. It's a great way to help the band and it's an important part. Our band couldn't take the field without this essential assistance. Read below for more information from head Road Warrior (RW), Rich McManus. A reminder Due to the SAT being administered on the AVHS campus on October 6, our rehearsal runs from 12-8. If your child is taking the SAT you do NOT need to send a pre-excuse form or an email. I will simply take a show of hands in class prior to 10/6. Thanks! Go Dons! Director of Bands |

Volunteer with the Road Warriors!!
Still looking for an opportunity to support the band? Consider joining the Road Warriors. Our primary role is to move band equipment to and from competitions and help the Pit (or front ensemble) students move their equipment on and off the field at competitions and home football games. No heavy lifting is required and scheduling is flexible. If you aren't interested in helping at competitions we could still use your help with tasks such as maintaining or cleaning equipment. Being a Road Warrior is fun! Virtually all Road Warriors return multiple years but we do need to replace those whose students have graduated. Please contact Rich McManus, for more information. |

Responsible Adult Volunteers Needed
The Marching Dons will be playing at the varsity football game between AVHS vs San Ramon Valley High on September 28th 6:00pm-9:00pm. There is a Pigskin Roast before the game so it will be hustling and bustling with excitement!
RAs will be assisting the Marching Band and Color Guard during warm-up, uniform prep, during the football game and half time show as well post game. We'll be setting up 200+ chairs on the field, filling large water jugs, handing out gauntlets, putting plumes in shakos, watering the band, putting hair up into shakos, shining shoes giving the band and guard a snack after their performance, replacing all chairs and supplies to the band room and cart room. You need absolutely no experience, we train on the job!

SHOP & DROP!
Another Way to Volunteer... Are you looking for a way to help out the band? RAs often need items that can be picked up during your trip to the store. Here are some items we anticipate needing this season: Red Vines Licorice 3 or 4 lb. tub (a favorite treat for after football games), Dixie Cups (Costco size package 5 oz.) Ice delivered to the band room before football games (necessary for cooling water bottles for thirsty band and color guard members), Aquanet (yes hair spray to keep all that hair up in those shakos). If you would like to volunteer for an easy one-time task please contact Jody Harcourt |

Uniform Update -Creases, Hangers, and Inspections, oh my!
IRON THAT CREASE! (Please!) Parents, you can help our band students put their best foot forward and look extra sharp for their first football game next Friday (9/28) by checking your student's bib pants to make sure the hem, and especially the front crease, are sharply defined. If necessary, PLEASE IRON THE FRONT CREASE AND HEM WITH THE IRON ON A COOL SETTING. (Pants with a snap hem may particularly benefit from ironing the hem.) The light bounces off the nice, sharp creases when students' are in competition and it makes a strong visual statement!
HANGERS! Jackets should be hanging on a sturdy suit hanger, not on a wire hanger. Plastic hangers are better than wire, but tend to lose their shape under the weight of the jacket and bib pants and may not last the entire season. Some students may have gone home with a thin, flocked hanger, which is also okay but may not be strong enough to last the entire season. I have a limited supply of wooden suit hangers I can give out. Please email me or ask your student to come and see me at the 2nd uniform inspection on Sept. 28.
UNIFORM INSPECTION PART 2. Just over one week to go before the first football game and seeing the marching band dressed in their complete uniforms! Friday, September 28th will be the second part of the uniform inspection. This will be a more formal inspection and we will be checking hem lengths (and hoping to see sharp creases!) for students who we were not able to see on the 14th, as well as addressing any shako, gauntlet, and glove issues.
Marching season, here we come!
