Attention Seniors!

We will be taking individual pictures and pictures with Mr. Grantham this Friday, since you'll be in your uniforms already.  Please look for either Debbie McManus, Lucy Furtado or Ann Ludington for the pictures.  Colorguard seniors: we will take your pictures before the first home game when you will have your uniforms.

 Thank you!

Every Tuesday - Bring your friends!

YES! The Tuesday Night Food Trucks will continue through November (weather permitting).  No reason to cook on Tuesday nights....come on over, grab a bite and then watch the band students perform.

More ways to earn money for the Band!

The Consumer Learning Center is offering donations to the band.  CLC does consumer testing right here in Pleasanton and is looking for volunteers to help test new products.    It's easy.  Every band parent who signs up will earn a $10 donation to AFM.  Register and select AFM under "how you eard about the CLC" to earn the donation.

CLC can be contacted at

Please feel free to continue dropping them off at the field by 8:30 or you can drop them off in the band room. My family is there for me on rehearsal nights because I have a class. I will be done and back out there with everyone at the end of September! If you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me Allison Cox.

Thanks Again!

We Have
 Earplugs Again!

Earplugs

Our new shipment of musicians' earplugs has arrived! If your student still needs earplugs, have him/her bring $10 to school and ask Sara Borchers or any band council member. The Council is handling earplugs sales during the school year. The earplugs are in Mr. G's office.

Earplugs can also be purchased directly from Nancy McGhee. You do not have to be a band student to buy earplugs. We support anyone's effort to protect hearing. These earplugs are great at loud concerts, on BART, in a movie theater if you have sensitive hearing, etc.

Thanks to all who are taking seriously the protection of hearing!

MAGIC OF MUSIC PLANNING MEETING TUESDAY OCTOBER 2

Thank you to those who have raised their hands to help support the band.  We are just starting to do the planning for this year's Magic of Music fundraiser (set for March 24 at the Firehouse Arts Theater).  We are looking for teams to work on:

--Marketing (theme, getting people to attend, invitations )

--Donations  (tracking, auctions, sales)

--Logistics  (decorations, venue, food, program)

Can you help us?  Please plan to attend a meeting on TUESDAY OCTOBER 2, 8PM in the band room.

If you are interested in helping but can't make the meeting, please contact Ellen Pensky McGraw.

Responsible Adult PUSD Clearance

RA (aka Responsible Adult) is the term used for Parent Volunteers who coordinate logistics, supplies and provide chaperoning duties for the Amador music ensembles, and primarily the Marching Band and Colorguard. If you are thinking you might want to volunteer as a RA this season and have not yet handed in a PUSD clearance form please download one HERE.Fill it out give it to your student to give to Mr. Grantham, he will put it in the RED RA BOX in his office and I will pick it up and hand it into the office for you.

If you already have fingerprint clearance through Pleasanton Unified School District please email Jody Harcourt and write "Fingerprint Cleared Through PUSD" in the subject line. That way I will have an accurate list of volunteers since PUSD fingerprint cleared volunteers don't have to renew their clearance each year.

Volunteer with the Road Warriors!!

Still looking for an opportunity to support the band?  Consider joining the Road Warriors.  Our primary role is to move band equipment to and from competitions and help the Pit (or front ensemble) students move their equipment on and off the field at competitions and home football games.  No heavy lifting is required and scheduling is flexible.  If you aren't interested in helping at competitions we could still use your help with tasks such as maintaining or cleaning equipment.  Being a Road Warrior is fun!  Virtually all Road Warriors return multiple years but we do need to replace those whose students have graduated.  Please contact Rich McManus, for more information.
Uniform Update!

PANTS AND JACKETS.  Thanks to the heroic efforts of our wonderful seamstresses (Vicki Grant and Morgan Mitchell), all hemmed pants and altered jackets were delivered to school for student pick-up this week after band practice.  The items are in the Music building lobby, labeled with the students' name, and in alphabetical order.  If your child does not have his/her pants and jacket, please have them check the lobby of the Music building.  If they don't find the items there, please email me ASAP.

SHOES.  All but 3 or 4 pairs of the marching shoes have been received and were delivered to school for student pick-up this week after band practice.  The shoes are also in the Music building lobby, labeled, and in alphabetical order.  If your child does not have his/her marching shoes, and they are not in the lobby, please email me.

UNIFORM INSPECTION PART 1.  At band pictures on Friday afternoon, we will also conduct the first part of the uniform inspection.  The purpose of this inspection is to make sure that all students have their jackets, pants, shoes, and black socks and to ensure there are no major fitting issues.  I will be at school to assist if any issues arise.  NOTE: Students should exercise care when putting on their pants to ensure they do not catch their toes in the hem or accidentally unhook the snaps.

Thanks!

FORE Music!

It's official.  Golf and music make for a great duet.  Our first FORE Music golf tournament on September 10 was a hole in one.  Band parents, alumni and friends gathered for a fun day of golf and 19th hole taco bar at the beautiful Castlewood Country Club earning lots of funds for our Fiesta Bowl trip to Arizona. Great prizes were won for longest drive, closest to the hole and top overall teams.   Nobody won the coveted hole in one car...but we hear several were so close.

Special thanks to our volunteers including Mary Ferwerda who collected many of the donated items and Kelly Schroeder, Karol Matsune, Sher Butler and Jacki Stewart for handling check in and other golf course duties.  Thanks, ladies!
