Uniform Fititng Signups (August 20-22)

The sign up link is now live!  Uniform fitting volunteers play a significant role in preparing the band for marching season.  Please click on the link below and help us fit nearly 280 students in their band uniforms during band camp.  This is a fun way to begin the school year and we look forward to your help - no experience required!

NOTE:  When you sign up, the website will ask you to create an account with your email address.  This allows us to send email reminders and updates about the fitting schedule.  SignUpGenius.com does not share this information, but if you would prefer, you can send Gale Naylor an email listing the days and positions you would like to volunteer for.

Thank you!!

Seniors!
Your Wind Ensemble uniform wants to stay active in Amador Valley music rather than gather dust in your closet.  Donate any and all pieces of your wind ensemble uniform to the AFM Wind Ensemble Uniform Closet.  Next year's students can give your uniform another chance to be on stage.  Last year over 20 items were donated and redistributed!

Please contact Stella Kim to arrange a time for dropping off your clean uniform items at her home this summer. An announcement will be made in August listing the pieces available to any current students who need to exchange sizes or replace items and for new wind ensemble members who would like to try on these pieces.  Mr. Grantham will place an order for new uniforms in the fall as usual.

We need your help!

A final farewell...

Thank you to our graduating seniors from the class of 2012 for their
outstanding contributions to the band, the campus and the community.
Wherever the future may take you-college, job, military-I wish you the
best in your pursuits.  Shine big, shine bright!

It is with deep gratitude that I thank the band families and students for the very generous gifts at Monday's awards.  I am humbled and appreciative of your kindness.  My job is my passion and your support and thoughtfullness make it all possible.

I hope you have a wonderful summer and I look forward to seeing those of you returning to the band program in August!  With 280 in the band, I believe our production of "The Bride" will be spectacular and one to remember.

Be well.

Mr. Grantham

Fiesta Fun Update!

 June 15 deadline coming up!

Thank you to all band parents who have sent in their contributions or pledges. From everything we are hearing, most parents and students are very excited about this once-every-four-year opportunity to march at the Fiesta Bowl field show and parade in December.

To date we are more than halfway to our goal of raising $890 per student. For planning purposes, we are asking for $750 per student by June 15 and the remaining $140 by August 15.

IMPORTANT! June 15 is the deadline set for us to collect contributions and finalize our plans for our amazing Amador Valley band to perform. We need everyone's help to get us there.

Statements will be sent out this week and AFM Board will be in touch to see if there are any questions. Checks made out to AFM may be sent to PO Box 602 or dropped in the box in the Band room.

As a reminder, the schedule will be:

Dec 26-Leave AVHS via bus, spend night at Embassy Suites Palm Dessert

Dec 27-Dec 31-Embassy Suites Tempe

    Dec 27-Fiesta Dinner

   Dec 28-Morning pool, rehearsals, dinner

Dec 29-Fiesta Bowl National Band Championship

   Dec 30-Fiesta Bowl Parade

Dec 31-Disneyland New Years Eve; spend night Crowne Plaza Resort

Jan 1-Visit Santa Monica & travel home

If you are not able to participate because of previously arranged travel plans, or if have any questions please contact Mr. Grantham as soon as possible. Competing in a national level field show competition requires a high level of participation from the band and color guard.

Looking for ways for you or your child to earn dollars for your band donations?  We have just the thing for you.

The band has just been granted approval to volunteer for the Alameda County Fair.  As a volunteer, you can earn dollars ($4 or $5 per hour) that can be put directly into your child's account or donated to the band.  The Fair needs parents and students to volunteer.  Every hour that is worked can earn dollars towards your band fees or Arizona trip.  Your choice. There are limited hours available. If you are interested, please email Ellen Pensky McGraw  immediately to let her know your availability and interest.  You must also fill out a form and list Ellen Pensky McGraw as the group sponsor.  The Fair runs June 20-July 8 (closed Mondays).

It's a great way to earn money during the summer vacation.  Opportunities include:

-        Parade - June 23rd (we really are in need of over 16 years old volunteers to help carry balloons and push floats)

-        July 4th opportunities - this is currently a very light day/evening for us

-        Grandstand seating attendants - this is a great customer service duty but they have to be adults over 18

-        Day Clean up - not glamorous but a very great group activity

-        Concert Event help - if you have volunteers that can help in the evenings, this is a great opportunity to volunteer and enjoy the music

If you have questions, please contact Ellen Pensky McGraw.
