We need your help!

We're at 63%

From the Grubmaster

Thank you just isn't enough.  I deeply appreciate all the help during our Santa Barbara trip.  There are too many names to mention individually but you certainly know who you are.  Everyone was flexible with the location and time changes.  I was able to concentrate on the delivery of our food, knowing there would be help waiting.  Such a load off my shoulders.  It has been an amazingly fast two years as Grubmaster, I have met friends I will cherish forever.  It has been a pleasure.

A very special appreciation goes to your new Grubmaster, Michael Swailes (and Marianne too!).  Thank you for staying by my side.  It was a joy working with you.  I have total confidence that I am leaving AFM in the best hands possible.

Thank you again for lending your canopies and coolers.  Please pick them up ASAP from the band trophy room if you haven't already.

Once a band parent, always a band parent!

Cheers,
Leanna Olberg

What a Finish!

I am so proud of the entirety of the Amador band family for our historic and satisfying WBA championships weekend in Santa Barbara.  The kids were oustanding on Saturday and then found a way to be even better on Sunday despite the rainy conditions (I think they did better because of the rain!)  91.65 sure was nice to hear but even better was the emotions of joy and satisfaction that the kids shared in the afterglow of all of their hardwork this season.

Thank you to a few volunteer leaders for their help in making the weekend a success logistically: Jody Harcourt (RA's), Rich McManus (RW's), Leanna Olberg (Food), Marianne Swailes (Lead Hotel chaperone/check-in), Shereen Lee (lodging) and Gina Carter (senior dinner).  These leaders, along with dozens and dozens of volunteers made the band's time off the field equally successful.

Saturday's parade closes out season officially!  Report time for the band is 4:00 pm in full uniform with Santa hats or yarmulkes in place of the shakos and plumes.  Please drop off and pick up students in the Del Valle lot as the front lot will be closed for parade staging.

The parade steps off at 5:00 from Amador Valley.  The students will be done no later than 7:30.  All students are to return to the high school to drop off their instruments and gauntlets.  Each student will be returning home with their gloves after the parade.

Update on concert attire for Wind Ensemble I and Wind Ensemble II Letters were sent home before the break detailing requested donation amounts for the purchase of formal concert dress for these musicians.  Please have all donations turned in to Mr. Grantham (check made payable to AFM) by December 9 so the order can be placed in time for the winter concert.

Please email if you have any questions or need more information.

What a Weekend!

WOW! This is our eighth year attending WBA championships with the Amador HS Marching Band and Color Guard and I'll tell yAFM Message Iconou I couldn't be more proud to be associated with this incredible organization. The setting in Santa Barbara was spectacular and despite the very wet weather on Sunday, the band played wonderfully and looked as sharp as ever. NINETY-ONE-POINT-SIX FIVE! What an inspiration to all of us in the stands. Once again, the "sea of purple" was the largest and loudest cheering section of all, complete with a parental "Amador Pride" as they took the field for their final run in the rain.

Of course, none of this could have happened without the army of parental volunteers who sacrificed their weekend to attend to the myriad of tasks required to make the experience a success. A special thanks to Jody Harcourt and her team of Responsible Adults who kept our kids safe, to Rich McManus and the Road Warriors who dealt with the rain and the logistical complexity of the venue, to Leanna Olberg and all those who kept the band fed (How many pizzas does it take to feed a band of 260 hungry teenagers?) and Shereen Lee who made the hotel arrangements. To all of you who did the large and the small to help our band succeed. THANKS!

I want to say a special thank you to Gina Carter and her team that organized the senior event. I know it was special for our daughter and all the rest of her class. In fact, due to the generosity of the senior parents, we were able to save the $900 budgeted through FSCs. Because of some special donations, there will be a senior dinner immediately prior to the band awards celebration on Dec 9th capping off their exceptional years as a part of the AVHS Marching Band and Color Guard.

Again, my sincere thanks to all of you who made the weekend  and the whole marching band season magnificent!

GOT WINE?

Wine Drive at the Winter Concert, December 20th

We are hosting a wine drive at our Winter Concert on December 20th to support the "Wine Pull" at the Magic of Music, our largest fund raiser of the year. Guests at our auction and dinner dance event can pay to pick out a mystery bottle of wine and possibly win a prize. Even if you don't win a prize, you still get a bottle of wine to enjoy later!

We will be collecting wines at the entrance of the theater before the concert.   Buy a bottle or two or bring some from your cellar, all kinds will be appreciated.

Please do NOT send wines to school and do not send wine to the concert with your student.  Must be 21 or older to deliver wine.

Your donation of wine will contribute greatly to the success of the Magic of Music 2012.Please contact Stella Kim or Sally Baker for more information or if you would like to donate wine other than at the concert.

Dining Out Fundraisers

We have 2 more "Dining Out Fundraiser" evenings for this year's MB season, so we ask that you join us to help raise funds for AVHS Marching Band & Colourguard program, and to say "thanks" to our local businesses for being so supportive of this phenomenal program our students take part in.

Tomorrow Friday, Dec 2, Fiesta Taco at Santa Rita & Valley will donate 15% of our total purchases to AFM , so print out the attached coupon and share it with your neighbors and friends, and bring it with you when you order.  Let's work together to thank the community for helping out our kids.  Whether it's take out or eat in, I'm sure with the busy holiday party schedule upon us, we can all take advantage of grabbing dinner @ Fiesta Taco.  This promotion will be in effect all day as well, so stop by for lunch.

Then, on Wednesday, Dec 7, Eddie Papa's on Hopyard will also share 15% of the profits with the band.  So, again, please remember to print out a coupon, and have dinner out for the band to show your support.  Join us for a year end dinner with other band families.

Thank you all so very much for helping support AFM.  We have raised over $500 so far, and it was so easy!!!!!!!!
