AFM General Meeting - Monday Oct 17th

All AFM members are invited to our next general meeting

on Monday, Oct 17, at 7pm in the band room. Mr Grantham will talk about his vision for the program and will give an update following this weekend's competition including how the WBA scoring system works and an overview of where the band is headed over the next several weeks. He'll be available to answer any questions you might have about the plans for the program going forward. You'll hear about some of the upcoming events like the Magic of Music fundraiser and the Campana Jazz Festival. The AFM board will be there to update you on our financial situation and answer any questions you may have on that as well. We hope to see you all there!



Tuesday Snacks

Thank you to everyone for all the yummy donations. You are all awesome! The students always look forward to their hard earned treats that they get on Tuesday nights! Keep them coming! Just a reminder - no nuts. Look carefully at the ingredients on store bought treats. Thank you again. 
It's time at last! 


Looking forward to seeing the Sea of Purple and the Marching Dons at Chabot College on Saturday.  Make sure your child is familiar with report times for morning and afternoon responsibilities and feel free to ask them if "they have everything they need to be successful
today!"


A look ahead  -  The itinerary for the Foothill band review will be posted on-line shortly, but for your planning purposes on 10/22, practice will be from 12-5. Students are to be dropped off at Foothill High School in uniform no later than 7:29 pm and the band performs at 10:00 pm  There are no buses for this event-all students are to arrange transportation to and from the competition. If you are planning on attending the field show, it starts at 4:30. Arrive early-seating will likely be at capacity.
There is a fee to park on campus at Foothill for the event so feel free to park in nearby neighborhoods as signs and distance allow.

Blue painters tape...got any?    We use blue painters tape to line the marching field with markers to help us clean our drill.  If you have any around the house from a painting project, please send in with your child and we'll take it off of your hands!  Thanks a lot!

Chili's Fundraiser! October 13

  

Help us thank our local businesses who support our annual Magic of Music by dining out with the band this Thursday, Oct 13 @ Chili's Restaurant. Invite your neighbors and friends to eat @ Chili's anytime between 11 AM & 10 PM, and Chili's will donate a percentage of sales back to AFM. Remember to print out a flier to bring with you. 

 
The AVHS Music Department Calendar Goes Google!

  

The calendar at the AVHS Music Department website has a new look!  Please take the time to familiarize yourself with the new calendar so it can best meet your needs.  While the information in the calendar now is just the basics (date, time, location) - over time, these entries may include itineraries (via pdf attachments) and special instructions.  So - check them frequently!  And when in doubt - please consult the website calendar!

 

Because this calendar is a Google calendar, there are special features available to allow add them to you own calendars that support an iCal format; share with your own Google calendars; and even to subscribe through a feed.  Links for these features will be made available in the coming weeks.  Stay tuned and stay connected!

 

Competition Snack Schedule for Sat. Oct 15th

The following sections are responsible for bringing snacks:

 

grapes 10 

 Grapes:Baritone Saxophones & Piccolos

                

 

 Cookies: Alto Saxophones 

 

On Saturday, October 15th, the above-designated sections are responsible for bringing snacks that will be eaten after that performance. The snacks consist of bringing either 24 cookies (package of store bought cookies) or 2 pounds of washed grapes, stems removed and put in a plastic ziplock bag please. You are to bring your cookies or grapes to the band room on Saturday, the 15th and place them in the appropriate, marked box or cooler outside of Mr. Grantham's office.

PLEASE NOTE: WE HAVE BAND MEMBERS WITH PEANUT ALLERGIES. PLEASE READ LABLES BEFORE BUYING COOKIES. 
Parents, please help your student(s) remember their assigned snack on Saturday, October 15th
