First Home Game Friday!!!
Report time for the game is 6:00 pm (which means 5:54 in attendance block with instrument). Students will be dismissed from the band room by 9:00 pm. All students must take their uniforms home after the game. Any uniforms left in the band room will result in a lowering of the performance grade for the game.
Band Uniform for the first game is as follows (report at 6:00 wearing the following) Marching band shoes Black socks Jeans (as dark as possible) Band t-shirt No jewelry, ladies hair pulled back
*New members will receive their band t-shirts in class this week. If the shoe order has not arrived in time, new members waiting for shoes should wear the darkest shoes they have that they can march in comfortably.
Colorguard Uniform for the first game is as follows (report at 6:00 wearing the following) Black shoes (or as dark as possible) that can be marched in comfortably Black socks Black dance/active pants Band t-shirt No jewelry, ladies hair pulled back Senior band parent? Keep reading! On November 19-20 (Saturday and Sunday) your child will be taking the marching field for the last time as a Marching Don. It's a special and emotional weekend for the whole band, but especially so for our graduating seniors. As a parent, you should know in case you weren't aware that there are several important events that weekend that recognize your child and can involve you, too!
On Saturday the seniors are treated to a wonderful meal at the competition site (Santa Barbara City College). Later that afternoon, each senior is pinned with a flower that they wear on their uniform for their final performances. There is an opportunity for you to pin that flower to your child and get a picture taken with them. On Saturday night, all of the seniors from each participating band are a part of a final retreat ceremony as a close to Saturday's competition.
And then of course on Sunday, you will get to see your child perform for the last time on the field with the AVHS Band and Colorguard. I hope this information helps you to understand how this final weekend of the season is different from any other and is a true celebration of thanks for all that your senior child has given to the program! Hope to see you there.

SHOP & DROP! Another Way to Volunteer...
Are you looking for a way to help out the band? We often need items that can be picked up during your trip to the store. Here are some items we anticipate needing this season: Red Vines Licorice 3 or 4 lb. tub (a favorite treat for after football games), Dixie Cups (Costco size package, bigger then bathroom size but smaller then coffee size), Ice (necessary for cooling water bottles for thirsty band and color guard members), Aquanet (yes hair spray to keep all that hair up in those shakos).
If you would like to volunteer for an easy one-time task please contact Jody Harcourt & drop the items in Mr. Grantham's office. For a weekly list of needed items check out the RA News page on the amadormusic.org website. Oh, you didn't know that there is a special RA page? To get there go to www.amadormusic.org click on Ensembles / Marching Band and Colorguard / RA News. Questions should be directed to Jody. |

HOTEL RA's FOR WBA CHAMPIONSHIPS
NEEDED: 25 Hotel RAs with PUSD fingerprinting clearance to be overnight chaperones. This level of clearance is only needed for those chaperones who will be supervising students in the hotel overnight, doing lights out and wake up visits to students' hotel rooms. Bus RAs do not need finger print clearance, just the usual PUSD volunteer form turned in.
WHEN: November 18th - 21st 2011
WHERE: Santa Barbara CA.
Please contact me immediately if you are able to perform this important duty. You will need to pay for your own hotel and expenses. (Rooms are being held)
If you are not a PUSD employee, but wish to be a Hotel RA, then you will need to pay the cost of being fingerprinted with the District at a cost of $75.00. Once you receive this level of clearance you will never have to fill out a PUSD volunteer form again, good for many years to come!
Please contact Jody Harcourt to sign up to be a Hotel RA. |

Band-Aid
Band-Aid is a philanthropic project organized by the Band Council, dedicated to extending support from Amador's band to another in need. Our first year, we donated musical supplies to Moos Elementary in Chicago, doubling the number of music students who were previously excluded from their program due to a lack of resources. This year, the Band Council wants to help Joplin High School in Missouri recover from a catastrophic tornado that hit this past May, devastating their resources and displacing over 62% of their student body.
Joplin needs your help! The Band Council is going to hold a single day march-a-thon fundraising event for parents, friends, and community members to come to a Saturday practice on October 1st and sponsor or pledge a marching Don! With each donation you will receive a "We March for Joplin" merchandise item. All proceeds go towards helping Joplin pay for new uniforms and instrument rental fees. All donations are tax deductible and any amount will be hugely appreciated! We encourage the entire community to come watch the band end the event with a run through of this season's show, dedicated to all of our wonderful supporters and our friends at Joplin.
Thanks so much and we hope to see you there!
